Wow...Seriosly? When I built my 94 4runner, it was mostly downey parts...

Well, I see this on the Chevy board all the time: many peeps go for the absolute lowest $$ rather that patronizing the reputable vendors, assuming they can substitute the 'tribal knowledge' available on the internet board for the hands-on knowledge available from long-standing vendors. No problem, but no crying over spilled milk, either...

Other than Kurt w/Cruiser Outfitters, I can't think of another company that will go beyond when it comes to customer service..They (especailly Jim have always been patient at answering questions).

I was not so impressed with Downey. They would not stand behind a broken Coilover. I got the run around last year on this and decided to remove the suspension and go another direction. The performance for the FJC Suspension was about the worst I have experienced. Too much money for poor technology. JMHO Maybe they did better on older stuff, but not my experience for sure.

I made a trip to Southern Califorinia in 1974 and visited Downey. At that time they were in a garage in the back of the Downey Toyota Dealership. Also visited Man-A-Fre and Hicky on the same trip. Still have the cataloges I collected from all three on that trip. Even had a chance to meet Marv From SOR even thought they didn't go into business until the late eighties. Sorry to see one of the old timers go out of business.

I did a similar trip although at a much later time in the mid-90's when I had just received my drivers license. As both a vendor and a Cruiserhead, I'm bummed to see a long time company like Downey close their doors. It wasn't too many years ago that I was a first time Cruiser owner (bought my 68' FJ40 when I was 15) and was calling Downey amongst others with stupid tech questions. Man time flies... I digress though, sad to see a big boy like Downey close their doors and I can only hope Cruiser Outfitters can live to see a 39 yr old birthday (we are 17 yrs old now).

I also visited them in the late eighties, bummer to see them gone, most of my 4Runner stuff came from them. IMHO, one of their big mistakes was being slow to get on the net? Still relying on customers finding the number, calling, waiting on a catalog, in an era when they could just make a few clicks and see/buy Toyota porn on most of their competitors sites.:whoops:
