I've now read through all of this forums pages, searched, and searched the entire net, all with no solution. I also ordered and received the Ellery manual which is great, but I still don't have the original service intervals for this truck. When I purchased the truck they gave me a manual which turned out to be for the 70 series. All I'm really looking for is either an English translation of the owners manual or a copy of the service intervals for a 1990 HDJ81 4.2 turbodiesel landcruiser. Can anyone help?

Martin.

The owner's manual doesn't have the service intervals, it's in a separate service manual which sorry I don't have. So here is my take on it anyway.

Engine basic service - Oil, oil filter, check drive belts and other levels every 3 - 5000 miles.
Engine other service - Oil, Oil Filter, Air Filter, Fuel Filter plus levels and drive belts - Every 10000 miles.
All chassis lubrication points (grease points) every 5000 miles or after deep water or mud including driveshaft UJs, swivels etc.
Transmission - Gearbox oil level, diff levels, transfer box - check every 5000 miles or after deep water or mud.
CHange Timing belt every 60K miles. Replace transmission fluids every 30K miles, Change coolant every 2 years, change brake fluid every 4 years.

This is just from experience rather than from the Toyota schedule.

Also worth doing other things on a service like lubricating door locks, hinges etc.

I was under the impression that the oil filter only needed to be changed every second oil change. Anyone one have any more info on this?

Yep forgot the PS fluid.

And yes the recommendation is only change the filter every second oil change.... however I would never put clean oil through an old filter IMHO it's a waste of good oil. Might as well change it especially as it is so easy on the 1HD-T engine and only saves you a few dollars/pounds.

Me too for the cost of fuel oil filters .. I love change it at any service ( 5,000 km ) and the axles and tranny .. is cheap, is safe .. is prevention.

here in Canada the filter is almost $40 so I wouldn't call that cheap. Compared to a Fram or something...
