Sorry for the Non-Cruiser content, but I know some of you will
have an answer......

A friend here at work is looking at a '94 Four Runner. It has
121K miles on it. A Five Speed! and V6.

It is supposedly in great shape body wise, and looks real good.

I know next to nothing about these trucks and was wondering
what to look for when looking at one.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.......

Thanks in advance,

Dale, no need for apologizing since this is in the right area(Toyota Truck Tech). For creditability, I owned a '92 for years with the same drivetrain setup so I'm talking from experience. First, you want to check that the recall on the head gasket has been down. Second, you want to check if the timing belt has been replaced. If it's 4WD, check if the CV boots has any tear in them. Then of course, your usual fluid checks. Depending on what kind of driving (freeway or residential) the PO has done could determine the life expectancy of the clutch disc. Hope this helps.

I think the head gasket recall was only for 90-92 models. Call your local Toy dealer with the VIN and they should be able to tell you if its included and whether or not it's been done.

Carl covered it pretty well. The only thing I would add is if it has a sunroof, check to make sure it works properly. The cables broke on my 90 and were expensive to replace.

I just checked Alldata's site and here's Toyota's recall info.:

With the introduction of the new Special Service Campaign (V06), owners of late production 1990, all 1991, 1992, 1993, and 1994 up to early production 1995 (1/90 to 10/94 production date) Toyota Compact Pick-up Truck, 4Runner and T100 equipped with 3VZ-E V6 engines who have not received any head gasket repairs from a Toyota dealer since October 1, 1995 will be notified to contact a Toyota dealer for head gaskets replacement.
