Toyota facelifts Land Cruiser SUV for 2018 at Frankfurt Motor Show

Toyota Gives The 2018 Land Cruiser A Modern Flair For Frankfurt News @ Top Speed

Toyota's large SUV gets updated with fresh looks inside and out, plus new tech

Toyota has taken the opportunity to introduce a facelifted Land Cruiser SUV at the Frankfurt Motor Show, with an updated design, a refreshed interior, plus new safety and infotainment technology.

In terms of appearances, a new bonnet, front bumper, fresh headlights with daytime LED running lights, depending on market and spec, plus a redesigned grille freshen up the Land Cruiser’s face. In profile, the car looks different thanks to a taller front bumper plus realigned wing lines and bumpers, all on the same horizontal axis. The new bodywork means that the facelifted Land Cruiser is 60mm longer than the outgoing model.

Around the back, fresh taillights make an appearance alongside a new rear bumper. Six-spoke alloy wheels will be available in sizes of 17 or 18-inches, and a new 12-spoke 19-inch wheel design will also be offered.

Toyota claims that the interior has taken a step up in terms of quality. The dashboard has been redesigned and boasts a new instrument binnacle and centre console layout, with fresh and re-organised switchgear. LED ambient lighting also makes the cut.

A new Touch 2 eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system has been introduced, while a 4.2-inch TFT screen is wedged between the dails in the instrument panel. The steering wheel is also new, and is shared with the V8 powered land Cruiser.

New safety technology from Toyota’s Safety Sense suite of driver assists is available, but is fitted to high-grade models as standard. The package includes a pre-collision warning system with pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, lane departure alert and automatic high-beam. A blind spot monitoring system and rear cross traffic alert is also available.

Under the bonnet things remain unchanged. That means a global line-up consisting of a 2.8-litre four-cylinder turbodiesel, a 2.7-litre four-cylinder petrol and a range topping 4.0-litre V8. UK buyers will continue to be offered the 2.8-litre diesel unit only, producing 174bhp and 450Nm of torque – 420Nm if equipped with a six-speed manual gearbox.

Can the Land Cruiser still cut it against fresher SUVs? Tell us your thoughts in the comments

We only get the Lexus GX460 brother of the Land Cruiser 150 in the US.

I thought prado at first as well, but then look at the last pic above, that's why i added it?? Grill and tail lights are prado'ish.

Yeah. Prado. Better turn in my 200 card for this egregious slip up!!:eek:

That's the Prado, not the Land Cruiser "V8" (200 series) as its referred to outside the US.

As others have said...that's basically the 4-Runner style SUV... Looks like they took some hood cues from the 16+ 200...

Not a 4Runner. More like a Lexus GX460.

Nice Highlander :rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

GX460 is based on the similar platform as the 4Runner...just as the LX570 is based on the 200LC platform. They aren't one and the same, but they share a lot.

Yep, same frame. Last I checked both had the exact same wheelbase as well (109.8" or something equally memorable)

Definitely a Prado going on there.

That "teeth" grill looks like a Cherokee. Yuck!

Only thing I can say for sure about it, is that to me it's just F'n ugly.

I have been super thankful that our 200 LCs have somehow escaped the ugly stick lashing, that the current Toyota designers of late have been dishing out.

If ever I have the opportunity to own one of these some day my first mod ( first day) will be that front grille.

I don't think it looks THAT bad...but it's pretty goofy to mimic the Jeep grill.
In some parts of the world...Jeeps are considered semi-exotic. Maybe they talked themselves into going after that look for those who think that of Jeeps...

Whoever has been hired to the grill crews for the hideous LX grill...the bizarre 4Runner grills...and now this one? -They need a Trump-ite to say "YOU'RE FIRED!!" Sheesh. Some weird stuff on there.

On the other hand...we're just talkin' grills.
-A functional zero...so... Meh...
Bigger fish to fry.

What I'm VERY curious to see is what the Toyota guy in Breck meant when he said to "expect a more MILITARY STYLE/LOOK" to the 200 replacement!
