In my search for an LC, I've come across a few Cert. used in my price range. In your opinion, are these worth it? Do they really go over the car with a fine tooth comb like the toyota site says - the 160 point inspection? If that is the case, i would feel better about getting a vehicle from far away (say CA or AZ), but would like your opinion about it. i would really prefer a one owner private seller, but they all seem to have a different idea of what a clean car is.

Thanks and let me know any suggestions for finding a good one. I know about the wood trim coming loose (would like one without it) and the holes in the door panels, and the nav screen antiglare stuff, but let me know if there is anything else I need to point out to someone looking over a vehicle for me.

Thanks,
Tom

The 6 year 100K mile powertrain warranty is the real deal. The 160 pt check is only as good as the checker. If you really want you butt covered get a Lexus with the 3 year 100K mile bumper to bumper warranty.

saw at least a couple of certified trucks with glaring defects that should have been fixed. So don't count on these inspections to be always serious. IMO the sort of things that might help a little old lady but not a savvy buyer. The certification may help with buying a Toy extended warranty, though, forgot.

The only thing I would count on, is that it has a warranty, if it is more expensive than a similar condition LC, plus the cost of a (good) aftermarket warranty, than it is not worth it, IMHO.

Thanks for the info - one of them (the cheaper) has been sold already. So the Lexus cert. preowned come with a 100K b2b warranty? Hmmmm.

These trucks get snatched up before you can even blink. I swear there have been 3 picked up before I can even look at them. There are only a couple in my local market and they are complete turds. Guess I need to act quicker.

Lex CPO warranty is 3 yr/100K mi (that's 100K on the odometer, not 100K mi from when you buy the truck!), platinum. I think it even covers warped rotors while the new car warranty doesn't (this is what my dealer told me, and they'll replace them, not turn them), plus other stuff like if you get stranded and need to get towed, also pays for up to 3 nts hotel plus rental car if you breakdown on a road trip, they will tow to the nearest Lexus dealer, not just any shop, free Lexus loaner, etc. I extended mine to 5 yrs since I had 50K mi to go and expect to drive it 10K mi/yr at the most. Someone on this board has had his LX towed several times to replace blown front diffs a few times...saved him a fortune in towing expenses alone.

if buying the toyota certified, make sure to look into buying their "wrap" plan, which takes the toyota certification and changes it from the powertrain plan into a bumper to bumper plan. there is an additional charge involved, but it is well worth the expense, imho

Yes, the basic Toyota certification can be upgraded. Also, check out upgrading to the $0 deductible for only $50.

Ask for a copy of the certification inspection report - dealer will have this to support the certification. It will show what they found re. the vehicle.

The toyota web site has good info on the warranties.

The Lexus CPO is a great warranty with extras as Jim Chow explained.

Lexus CPO are too new and too expensive, at least what I have been able to find. I'm really looking for 2000 model to save on sales tax and tags, and if I find any, they are 30K. My state (MS) really sticks it to you on tags for newer vehicles. I think I may have found my truck though! It has 105K, Lexus LX, one owner texas truck, that the owner has taken to the dealer for everything (has records), with immaculate interior. He wants 21K which is about what I was wanting to spend. Does this sound good to you? He is selling because he bought an LS430 or something (not up to date on the Lexus models). I was really wanting a Cruiser, because the insurance is a little cheaper, i don't particularly like all the wood, and worry about the height control breaking, plus I like "Land Cruiser" on the butt, but I can compromise. Plus my buddy said the dealership is awesome on service. I'm exhausted from looking as well. It stops being fun when there are like 3 trucks in your market for a month.

Well, what year is the LX?

Oh yeah, I forgot - It is a 2000 MY. Which I want for saving on taxes/tags. As long as it is maintained, it shouldn't be much different than an 01 or 02, right?

The 01 pricing can vary quite a bit. It sounds like you have an excellent 2000 available at a good price - I would go for it. There is not much difference between the 2000 and 2001 mechanically, it is mainly cosmetic. Slee has particulars on his website. Vehicle condition and maintenance are more important to me.

What is slee's website? please pardon my ignorance!

Sleeoffroad.com

thanks!

I'm starting a new thread with pics of the LX i'm considering - titled Opinion of this LX for purchase
