I have been contemplating towing my 1983 FJ60 about 120 miles with 2006 v8 4runner. First was thinking of a tow dolly but now contemplating a tow trailer.
Anyone have experience towing vehicles with a 4th gen?

You need to get a bigger trans cooler and buy a scangauge so you can see your trans temp. If you have anything over 1500-2000 lbs behind you you'll struggle a to maintain speed going up hills (you'll be near the redline) and expect 8mpg or less with a car behind you. Last thing is to leave the trans in 4th and never have it in D unless you have just the trailer by itself. You don't want overdrive with that much weight.

No farther than your going I’d tow on. You ain’t going to hurt nothing. I think the 4th gen is rated for 5k pounds or over. I’d be more concerned about stopping it than anything else. I wouldn’t recommend it again, but towed a full size chevy extended 4wd on a dolly with my 3rd gen that far once. Stopping was a treat let me tell ya.
