I have an issue with the local regulating authorities (our "DMV") as regards to the weight our 100's can tow.

My 100 was imported from the Middle East and in their infinite wisdom the powers-that-be have registered the car as being able to tow 0kg.

For you non-metric types that don't know kilo's, that's 0 pounds tow weight.

It should be 3500kg. I want to have it correctly registered, needless to say. None of my paperwork has hit home with the bureaucrats. They gave me an "out" though: does it say so anywhere on the car?

Do any of your rigs have the tow weight somewhere on the body/chassis on a plate?
Mine does not. But I vaguely recall a previous 100 I owned having it on a little sticker/plate in the drivers side door on the B-pillar. It is not on my VIN-plate/options/color/model plate in any case.

My thinking is if anyone has it, it is a part that can be ordered. I stick it on my car, show it to my "DMV", done. It doesn't pay to fight the system, just work with what they give me.

My other option is to get Toyota to declare that my car/VIN can tow 3500kg. As it was not an EU-car to begin with, Toyota EU will not play ball. Does anybody have an "in" with Toyota somewhere? I'm thinking some sort of e-mail/letter that all UZJ-100's (globally) can tow 3500kg.

Will they not accept owners manual? Gas 4.7 100s are rated for 6500lbs which is about 2500kgs. Try calling Toyota customer service and see if they can help you?

This is where it gets interesting. Here in the EU the 4.7's are rated 3500KG which is well over 7000lbs. I know this because my previous 100 had this weight registered. As does every 100 here. Like I said, Toyota customer service is no help. All EU Toyota's have one "certification" which is valid in all EU. However, Toyota is not imported or sold by Toyota itself (in my country) but by an importer. And they will not help and claim they cannot help, as my car is not originally EU but Middle East.

They did not accept the manual. And my manual also states 3500KG, by the way.

So either some sort of plate/decal on the car (if this exists), or some form of written declaration on a piece of paper with a Toyota letterhead is the way to go.

Gotta love red tape. I have a Toyota installed hitch with a sticker that says max rating of 5000lbs. No other markings or stickers.

A little off topic.

U-hall would not rent me a vehicle trailer to pull loaded with a 100 series. Said towing vehicle must weight more than loaded trailer I'm pulling.

My guess is that the weight limit in this case is the hitch itself, not the vehicle.... I don't mind red tape so much, it's the people wielding it that piss me off. It wouldn't even bother me so much, but if I tow something and God forbid something happens (even if it's not my fault), "we decline payment because etc..."

Totally off topic. Must be an insurance/liability thing (so sort of like my problem). Because as we all know, every truck on the road outweighs the load it is pulling.....:bang:

Yeah its hitch limit but just to gibe you an idea of what stickers are and aren't on a vehicle delivered from dealer.

So are you concernd with local authorities giving ticket or insurance claiming negligence.

Theoretically the former is possible but unlikely, the latter is also unlikely but the potential for damage(s) is huge. Also, at some point I will sell the car and towing is a large appeal of these cars.

That and my OCD kicked in, I hate it when things are not "just right". My guess is that about 70% of mudders will totally understand. :flipoff2:

The sticker means absolutely nothing, but if that's what it takes, then them's the breaks.
Totally worth it.

I saw Cruiserparts does carry certain model type "plates". I just realised I don't even know what those things are called.

Hitch ball also has weight limit, which is usually lowest of all (vehicle, hitch, ball). If local authorities will not take owner manual your SOL.

The owners manual will work for insurance claim or a court of law, if it ever came up. But in the case of U-hall, one may be SOL as insurance could fall back on U-hall's guidelines to claim one negligent.

Nope. Thule makes a towbar with hitch that is rated and certified to 3500kg. Certified for use on a UZJ-100 mind you.
"Brink" is owned by Thule. It's originally a Dutch brand. I am Dutch. The name "Amazon" is what the Brits call the 100 series. The Swiss call it the "500". Go figure.

No towing limit stickers on mine, just the usual gross vehicle weight and carrying capacity info.

Here is the sticker on my factory installed receiver:

Maybe there's a part number for the sticker?
