This thread is making me feel better about towing my #2500 trailer all over the country next month. I second the AirLift 1000. I've towed with them twice now and its a night and day difference over stock springs.

Did you "T" the air lines or keep them separate for towing?

That was my understanding from the Airlift thread. T'd for articulation. Separate for towing. Thanks.

Actually separate is better for articulation too in my opinion.

I just got off the phone with Uhaul. They told me that my stock 98 LC do not weight enough to tow their auto-transport + Lexus SC430. Assuming I am buying the SC, I will be towing from TN to KY, about 5 hr this weekend.

Is this not doable? I thought LC should be able to tow this with no problem. Yes, I know I will have horrible mpg. Any advice?

@bctlex Sounds like either Uhaul doesn't know what they're talking about when it comes to the capabilities of our trucks, or they're trying to cover their a**es in the event something were to happen *knock on wood*. They just don't want to be held liable for any incident's that may occur that could possibly place them at fault (such as allowing someone to tow more weight than they should, when in reality you can with no problems). Horrible mpg? Yes. Can you do it though? Absolutely. Just turn overdrive off and take it easy. Watch coolant/oil temp & pressure and if you have a scanner of any type it'd be good to monitor trans temp too. Tell them you'll be towing something lighter like a '98 civic and see if they say yes.

I have a Scangauge that is permanently mounted, so I will monitor keep an eye out for water, trans temperatures etc. Yes, planning to just go 55 mph, slow and steady.

I just towed a boat (3700lbs with trailer) 580 miles in my 05 and I was actually pretty impressed with how smooth it was. Sure, it's not a powerhouse but it rarely downshifted and cruised right along at about 75mph. I do have the Airlift brand air bags, they make a HUGE difference. Wouldn't tow without them in this rig, the rear end is too saggy without.

Do you have an electric brake controller? It's not that the truck can't pull the weight, it's the stopping part. I had U-Haul install the e-brake controller for a little over $200. I was trailering only 3500 lbs and was definitely happy that I had it.

An 8000# easy tow with a 2000? I think he is lying, or was towing across Kansas.

I agree on the airlift. I have them on my work truck. (2010 3500 duramax) they are the best addition I have put on it.

I towed 5000# behind my bone stock 2000 LC on monday and it did it fine, and it was a terribly balanced load. It squatted like hell but at 55mph on the interstate and then 35mph on the side streets i wasnt worried. I just hate doing it to it when I have a perfectly capable truck. Before I got the work truck, I would regularly pull 4-6k with my LC. I hated doing it but didnt really have the option. Now im spoiled with the diesel pickup, I pull about 10-14k# 3-4 days a week so the LC wasnt really an option anymore.
