We also tow a boat slightly bigger than the OPs and we have towed it to the Puget Sound, British Columbia, Lake Michigan, Maine, and all over Montana. I'm anal about the trailer's mechanicals, and the LandCruiser's brakes, tires and we have airbags in the rear coils. If anyone wants to install them, I have put in several sets and have found a way to put them in MUCH faster than the directions. half hour if you stop for coffee and you disconnect nothing. The airbags give enormous control improvements and that translates into safety. Naturally, we tow slower, headlamps on even in the daytime, gear down on descents, frequent wellness checks at stops of wheel bearing temps, fluids and the like. Towing is serious business and its the most dangerous type of passenger vehicle driving, so treat it as such.

is there a weight distributing hitch that would work on the 80?

As for airbags, that @BILT4ME mentioned, are those the "Helper" type? I have been curious about air suspensions for a while now.

Yes, the helper type, not replacement.

Airlift brand.

I used the Airlift helper springs with an onboard compressor when towing with the OEM suspension. Worked great as I could dial in the ride while driving. Without the compressor I always would forget to add air before getting on the road with the trailer. After upgrading to the OEM medium springs I removed the helper springs as I no longer needed them.
