Made a mistake. The 7.3 redlines at 3400 not 3000 so he still does have some breathing room.

I was up there in Rpm's, at 75 = 2900. I was following Paul's advice since I can't monitor my tranny temp.

Love it, like you said, set the cruise and sit back. It never downshifted with the cruise set. Running 75 on the hwy I got 7 MPG with the overdrive off.

Good to hear, 7 MPG don't sound right but with the overdrive off maybe so. Will take a few trips to get a feel for the rig and the RPM range or sweet spot for the best mileage. Your truck is pretty light so shouldn't be an issue for that rig.

I bought a glow shift 3 in 1 diesel gauge kit for mine. Included everything I needed for EGT, Boost, and Trans temp. Definitely a good investment. Also, try slowing down a bit. On the recent TN trip, I got 13-14 running 70mph on the interstate. On the way back, I stayed off the interstate and ran 55-60 the whole way. That game me an average of 16.8mpg, which was GREAT! My 4l80E hardly saw numbers north of 180* when running hills in OD. It really didn't take me much longer considering I didn't have to stop for fuel until it was time to make a stop anyway. FYI, my trans cooler is built into that radiator so my trans temp and engine temp are always within a few degrees due to heat exchange between the two. You might have a similar setup and if you know engine temp, you have a good guess at trans temp.

do not think engine temp is a good rule to thumb to assume trans is the same

if the radiator is cooling then the radiator temp is less than engine temp the trans only has a small exchanger in the coolant oil passing through can only disperse heat while in the exchanger on pulling trans temp can exceed250/300 degrees not a place ya want auto trans fluid to go.

all diesel engines U should monitor boost, fuel psi , exhaust temp & if auto trans it as well IMHO.

I put a set of the LT285/70/17E Terra Grapplers on the Dodge today and Mike at B&M talked me into putting a set of the Skyjacker D25 Softride Coil Springs up front instead of a leveling spacer kit because it gave such a great ride. I would have ordered them but he had them in stock so I went with his recommendation and all I can say is WOW, I wish I would have done it a long time ago. The truck is riding better than it did when I drove it off the lot. Only negative is I got about half an inch more lift than I wanted so I hope it settles down with some driving or a tow trip :)

regardless, you should talk about how your thinking about getting one. I've been trying to talk dad into getting one that looks SUPER on his HD.

Road Armor Front Stealth Winch Bumper

One along those lines.. :D

Since he's getting a company Tahoe, he talked about a "lift" on the HD. :D

That's a nice looking bumper but I bet they're proud of them too. When we were up in Wyoming the Dodge 3/4 and 1 Tons were a daily fixture working ranches and pulling horse trailers for the rodeo season. The ranch bumpers were starting to grow on me. I guess they need them more out there with those crazy pronghorns darting across the roads kinda makes you nervous pulling a load waiting for one to run out in front of you. I like the fact the ranch bumpers provide a lot of protection especially for the grille area.

I'd steer him away from a lift especially with the IFS and more towards a leveling kits when you start adding the lifts and larger tires you toss your mpg's right out the window which in most cases is the reason for going with diesel for the towing and hauling. My brother in law has the same truck with a leveling kit and 315's and it looks nice. You have the cruisers for the lift tires and offroad use :D I have to say I was glad to have the 4WD option on the trip out West I got in a bind trying to turn around on the side of a MTN in Estes Park with the camper in loose gravel and dirt and without the 4WD I wouldn't have made it out. We also hit snowy ice conditions where it was safer to run in 4 Hi then take a chance on skidding around.

It's not a tow rig but it attaches to the tow rig. :D

Picked her up today......lots to do to get her to where I want her but what a great platform to start from. No pics of the interior yet......most of it will be gutted anyway.

Aww Sweet. I was curious to know what it looked like. You made it sound a little different in my mind. But that's cool.. :D

Not a bad deal.. :D

For those who don't know, What's the specs..

Thanks
Cody

It's a '91 horse trailer conversion. The cab over portion has enough space for a queen AND a twin size mattress, the living quarters including the cab over is only 12' long or so and the deck is ~ 17' including the 6' dove tail. One of the nice features is that the center of the trailer is all storage. The expanded metal is hinged and they ran expanded metal across the bottom of the frame. It was well thought out but the interior is where they decided to make it weird. The inside of the door and the bench that has storage in it are both made out of solid wood and have quite of bit of shellac on them. It just doesn't fit with the rest but I am sure it is what he had laying around at the time.

 Looks cool, more pics.

Looks like lots of competetion for event RV spots. Hope Josh shows us his trailer progress one day.

Thanks. I am going to do kind of a build thread when I get started on it and I will get before and after pics with it. I am beat after being in the sun all day yesterday and then in the truck all day today. So, before I went and parked it, I snapped a few quick photos. I can't leave it at the house as the HOA would $hit a brick so it is at Baby Blue Mike's (Cast N Blast) construction yard at the moment.

Congrats Mike it looks like a great setup already bud, only thing it really needs is a new paint job maybe something in the yellow spectrum you'll stop the trains with that red :)

Forgot the PO had sent these to me a while back.......

See the door below the shelf.....it covers one of the port hole windows on the back......and notice the crown moulding to the left.

microwaveshelf.jpg

Here are the cabinets and the fridge......that is a view from the entry door. Better lock it before taking a shower.

cabinet.jpg

Notice more of the crown moulding above the beds.....it goes all the way around. Not a single piece is cut correctly nor is it mitered in the corners........ :hillbilly:

Keep in mind, the guy Matt who I bought it from bought it this way and had no time to change anything but it's funny because he was telling me his ideas and they were the same as what I want to do. I just hope I get to them before I sell it.
