I like that short one. just a little too short from the looks of it. probably more for a jeep or a sami.

larry how does that spry in the 40 tub look ?

Looks sweet, if I get a minute tonight I'll start a thread and upload some pics of the 78's makeover :)

Larry,

One of my 6.0 Ford buddies was riding with me to Hot Springs a few years ago and he looked up at the display and it was reading 17.9 mpg average. He said "that can't be right" but it was. They get good gas mileage pulling a Cruiser. My black 99 got around 17 going to HS in June. Put it in the hills and it'll get around 14. Still pretty good. Clutchee pulled my 40 and his 60 on a 36' goosneck to Katemcy this past year with an 07 Dodge CTD 6 Speed (nice ride) and I think we got around 14. You didn't even know the trailer was back there till we got ready to stop. One more story: went to Katemcy with Nolen once on a 36' goosneck with my 40 his buggy and a M101 trailer/camper on the trailer pulled by a Duramax (at 85mph!) and got 8 mpg! I'd get the Dodge.

BTW, the trailer in the above pic is heavy as hell! We had one like that loaded with my 40 and J-Rob's 40and the truck/loaded trailer combo weighed 28,000 pounds!

Thanks for the info and stories Jeff and damn 28K  I'm assuming thats the solid flat bed I posted :whoops:certainly much more than I'm interested in pulling. I just missed a deal on 04 Dodge crew cab with 36,000 on the clock for 18,900 it sounded to good to be true but I was ready to jump all over it. Sold two days prior. I'm headed to TN and will look around there a bit but I'm in no rush now and will have to wait to bring the 2 40's back for the Thanksgiving trip as we leave Thursday for 8 days. I'll resume looking around when I come back. Pretty much have a target of 2003 Ford last year of the 7.3, 2004 - 05 the last model 5.9 Dodge must be a crew cab. Hopefully under 100K less is always better I know its hard to find but am seeing a few so they're out there people using them just for the reasons we are toy hauling. Will entertain looking at the Chevy but haven't heard of any choice year to look for not crazy about the look from 03 - 07 rather the newer look like Johns if I went that route. Not interested in a lifted, level kit ok no crazy ass smoke stacks or exhaust so looking for a mostly stock rig :) I know Good Luck  but if you run across something between Houston and Hattiesburg that fits please send it my way

04-07 classic Duramx same engines just different computer work for better HP, all have Allision Trans and the 6 speed started 06+, 07 classic has less emission than the new style 07
Duramax specs here: 07 classic LBZ 360hp 650ftlb
6.6L Duramax LBZ Specs
Cummins specs here: 325hp 610ftlb

That's kinda what intrigued me about this one. You get the comfort of the Ford and the power of the Cummins.

not a bad $ the conversion kit alone between 3/4K

Larry here is my 02 cents......

Basically Ford 7.3 or Dodge (5.9 or 6.7)

I would opt for a manual trans..... your gonna tow so why worry about the Auto going out on a trip.........

The 7.3 & 5.9 trucks are easy and straight forward to work on..... 6.7 get complicated..... now that being said: ours a6.7 as Bodean said hauled our gooseneck & rigs to TX with ease.

Honeslty we got a dually cause i know us: kinda like tires you start small then buy big- basically just bought big and have been pleased.

Our Dodge Ashley drives everyday and loves it....... trim parts are plastic but powertrain is what we wanted.
