Larry here is my 02 cents......

Basically Ford 7.3 or Dodge (5.9 or 6.7)

I would opt for a manual trans..... your gonna tow so why worry about the Auto going out on a trip.........

The 7.3 & 5.9 trucks are easy and straight forward to work on..... 6.7 get complicated..... now that being said: ours a6.7 as Bodean said hauled our gooseneck & rigs to TX with ease.

Honeslty we got a dually cause i know us: kinda like tires you start small then buy big- basically just bought big and have been pleased.

Our Dodge Ashley drives everyday and loves it....... trim parts are plastic but powertrain is what we wanted.

Thanks for the advice Clutchee just got into TN this morning and looking around to see what they may have here as well, the wife wants the Tundra but longterm I think the Diesel will be more fuel efficient and handle the hauling duties better but she don't care to hear it

Definatly..... thinkof it like this..... Tundra for daily duties, single trailer sure but stepping up to a gooseneck (more weight, harder to stop) you need and want a diesel for pulling power and also being able to pull a gooseneck;)

Good luck!

Don't know if you saw this one over on LA4X4.......it's a Ford F-350 with a Cummins 12v swapped in.....$12k.

One day the dodge will fall off my cummins and then I will have one too. Would have been nice to let someoen do the work for me though. For 12 grand it seems more like theft involving paper work.

I may have come across a little negative in my last post. After hauling 6K of sand this weekend on the trailer and a tractor on the second trip I am well pleased with the diesel truck that I'm driving. My wife even commented that the truck did not squat with the tractor on the trailer ;p. Did I mention that with my GMC the back bumper would have been dragging the ground. The only worry was the trailer braking on me.I did get stuck once in my yard with the 6K of sand loaded on the trailer and that is when a 4x4 Dodge would have been nice.

I dont see anything negative any any of your posts, unless you edited it.

Untill this last trip to ten I have enver had the dodge squat much with a load, but then I had a stupid amount of stuff in the bed and back seat of the truck.

On the 4wd tow rig statement you made, I like having it when I need it, but most of the time I would rather have a little better mileage, only time I have used it was getting out of Barnwell in january, and I probably could hae done without it, and pulling into where I park my trailer one time I had rained while I was away and the truck just sank, I would have been walking home because I have no cell phone coverage where I leave my trailer. Only 2 times I have NEEDED 4wd and am glad i have it.

Would be even more crucial if I had the dually I should have waited and bought but thats another story. ;)

My "thank god I have a diesel" moment was when I started up TN-111, and the drag up to the camp ground at golden mountain. With the f150 i would have had to unload at the base and drive the rig up seperate.

musson hav like 3 used dodges 2 with the 5.9 one is a dually , 4x4

Just made it home this afternoon will have to look into that :)

larry hit up my cuz ben richard on my face book he can tell ya more he has pics on his fb also

I spoke to a Drew at Musson today sent me some info on a 08 Dodge with 40,000 miles in like new shape but it was Black. Not real particular on a color but not real interested in a black vehicle unless I can't pass up the deal. I had called Ben a while back looking for a 100 if he ran across one but he didn't seem interested will try him again. :)

is the 08 a dodge? i just want to make sure because you do not want the ford 6.4 they have major radiator problems.

if its a dodge i think 08 has the 6.7. do a DPF delete because that is the 6.7's only problem. diesel particulating filter clogs and causes truck to run horribly.

oh and i definatelly ordered my SAS kit

Larry,
Have you seen this one? It's posted on LA4X4 and it's in Lafayette.

I didn't but thanks for keeping me in mind Mike, that model has the 6.0 and started the problems Ford had for years after they stopped the 7.3. Its a shame you can make some great deals on them but I'm not willing to take the chance of the major problems that could come with that deal.
