At a boy Josh, That’s an impressive post.!

Oh I am running an Edge Juice with attitude /pyrometer on the truck now. Almost make me paranoid watching all the information it’s giving you (in a good way, if there is such a thing).

Considered a diesel or 4.7 in the 80 was on my mind but the continued long sprints and trail abuse will take its toll so I've reconsidered and as we hope add a 25 - 27FT camper to start dragging around the country as much as I'd always love to have a cruiser with me I think the tow rig is the better choice with the Moab trip and time out west next year weighing my decision as well. We also have the Sequoia that does fine for nearby trips but with a 184 on the clock and the 8 - 9 mile per gallon towing its not the nest option for the long winded sprints :) Why Toyota never brought us diesels :bang:

Tundra is a beast for a gasser and was the wife's first choice but its a thirsty hog and the diesel will tow much of any load I choose to throw at it and should make up on the mpg's as well.

I agree having a tow rig is the way to go. You guys travel so far to put your trucks in dangerous situations it would be nice to know in the back of your mind that if something goes seriously wrong you can just throw it on the trailer.

Yep that's why it would be nice if we could find a good deal on a transport. We worry that if we have a breakdown it would be far to get a wrecker to tow us home! Don't think Paul is interested in buying us a tow rig.

With the diesel tow rigs stacking up I'm sure if you two ever needed we'd find room to get you home. A two car hauler may not be two far down on the list and would give the opportunity to share the fuel cost with someone else and could be worth it. Also could give the opportunity to someone else in the club without the resources to get their rig to an event. Never enough toys to fill every need :meh:

this is was up

this would just settel all our probs 8.0 l

How sweet it would be :frown:

There is a place on Johnson street were you can rent a truck, my brother does it all the time when his Duramax goes in the shop four times a year.

Now you are talking my kind of truck Jon...

Saw a commerical for Dodge that lets you test drive for 60 days during a tent event. Take that to Tenn. and then give it back.

If they would ever release a diesel dually Tundra, it would be hard not to buy.

I've had 2 99 2wd Dodge Cummins auto's. Put 250K on the first one and my present one has 147K on it. Sure, it doesn't ride the best but it will get you there. It's all stock and I think that is the way you keep the auto tranny in it without too much trouble. The weak link in the 2nd gen (24 valve) trucks is the Carter lift pump mounted to the side of the motor. If it goes out you usually end up putting a Injection Pump (VP44) on it and I did that on my first one. Fuel pressure is the key.

Much has been said about the interior and body falling apart but if you take care of the truck then it will last. Both of my Dodges have held up fine.

I love the 99-03 7.3 Fords and the Duramax will pull like a big dog but the Dodge is just a workhorse. If you leave it stock (for the most part) then you will get years and miles of duty. All of them have their problems. Get on some of the Diesel forums and look around. The sites are much like Mud with tons of info. Good luck!

;) I like that idea John that would really give me some seat time to evaluate it. Paul found out from someone who works on these trucks that Service is trying to unload a few Duramax trucks new for the price I'm looking to spend used so I'll go make a pass today to see whats up with that. His source also told him the Duramax sees less service and complaints which is encouraging from someone who works on them all.

Later,

Thanks for the feedback Jeff I remember talking with you about your Dodge and it sounded like it gave you good service with the exception of the time the pump went out before one of the events we were at. I really wanted a 08 - 09 Dodge but I've since got cold feet with the feedback and reading I've done. I'm gonna look around and drive a few also watching for low mileage 03 7.3 or 04 5.9 4WD crew cabs while looking. Whatever I choose will stay next to stock form for hauling and towing. What kind of mileage did you average towing your 40 to the events?

guess i need to start looking for me a deisel tow rig wish should i lean

How do u think tundra would do pulling da mutt to uath

:hmm:mount a ball on the end on one of the diesel towed trailer put a remote controlled tow bar on the front of you rig.

then on those steep climbs just run up REAL close on the down run drop your towbar on the ball & let them pull ya up :bounce::bounce2:
