ya 5000, the dealer told me the fjc is the same chasse & motor as the tacoma and the tacoma is rated for 6500, with the 4:56 gears I am hoping it tows ok, was thinking about the equalizer setup, there a little expensive new, anyone got a used setup they want to get rid of?
 
tacoma has leaf springs in the rear, so it can handle more weight. if you are looking for weight distributor Jeff V form E4W has one. He said that he don't needs it so he wanted to give it to me for like $20, its missing the chains and the attachment for them.

the only thing the same is the front end. after that its all different.
 
I towed my 40 with the FJc a few times and it did fine. I had to downshift a lot on the bigger hills though.
And I was running the 34" tires on the FJc and the 40 was load and was probably weighing around 5000lbs (mine has that heavy ass chevy 350 in it).

So yeah with the stock tires you should do fine, I will say too the lighter the trailer the better.

I have towed the 40 with the cruiser before, but I had the 6" lift and 34" tires a heavy trailer and no brake controller, I know it will tow it, it doesn't do great, I actually have a light open deck trailer now I just don't want to beat the crap out of it. At this point with the ole lady in school I have no choice, no new truck for me this year:crybaby:
 
Taco

I've towed my 40 on a tow dolly with my 2007 V6 Tacoma. The truck did fine. I think towing a 40 with a taco is fine if you only do it a few times a year...and carefully.

Plain and simple though...ITs a lot of weight to be putting behind a Taco. Engine can handle it, tranny can handle it...but braking power is sub-par..and forget about any emergency maneuvering.

If I towed on a regular basis...I would buy the Tundra.
 
if u have trailed brakes you should do fine. i seen a honda ridgeline pulling a 2nd gen 4runner at raush.
 
Just be safe. Remember the a lot of knuckleheads will pull out in front of you or cut you off on the highway to make an exit. If you are in an accident and anyone is hurt you could be screwed if you.are just a little over your weight. That being said I pulled a 40 on a full trailer with no brakes for 300 miles with my old Tacoma. I would not do it again.
 
Just to pick on you, this is what you need.

Diesel 100, with a aluminum 600# trailer.
