Tow-balls-are-not-safe-for-4WD-recoveries.jpg

Never use the tow ball for recovery. You never know before, how much power will be necessary. In the Article is not just pictures and videos about what can happen... You find links to deadly accidents too.

Article:
Don`t use the tow-ball for vehicle recovery

The article is too available in german language.

Be always careful with 4x4 recoverys - just use gear who is rated for that purpose.

In all the years I've been on this forum, I think this would be the 4th or so thread on the subject.
Gotta agree with you as I started a thread myself on it. Kinda frightening how deadly a sheared off
trailer ball can be!

I'd also add no matter what stay out of the line of fire and use equipment in good repair. I've seen a few photos floating around other places where the hitch receiver and safety chain assembly torn clean off at the welds or were it's close to catastrophic failure.

it's not great if the hitch flies off but I may not go too far, whereas the ball is likely something else. That thing could go some distance and make a clean hole. Like a Civil War cannon... yikes!
