in the OB2 vehicle editor area, there is a MPG trip adjustment for those who believe their MPG is off by a certain amount. this allows you to adjust for it.

wondering if this is used to adjust for larger than stock tires, as the ECU doesn't know any difference in tire size and reports inaccurate MPG to the app.
Then the answer is yes, but even so, my Torque MPG numbers are still off - on the high side. Still need to troubleshoot them, but haven't cared enought to dig into it. My understanding is that this adjustment is just a multiplication factor applied at the end of the internal calculations, so if you saw it off consistently by 10%, you could change it. You could definitely use this to adjust for tire size, IF the underlying number is consistently off. Mine tells me I'm getting 22MPG. I know it's wrong, but I like it...

The cheap ones have a constant power draw, although small. The one that the maker of Torque suggests(Scantool), has a sleep mode that can be enabled via torque that will put it to sleep and it draws far less current. I chose the higher end adapter and leave it hooked up constantly.

FYI anyone looking for one, Scantool has a sale on the MX version for $149 and you can leave hooked up as CappyKD said (also small) - thank you for the advise
+ if you hurry - like them on Facebook then send sales@scantool.net an email asking for the 25% off from FB like, which was a promo last week, they might still honor it
worked for me tonight and quite a good discount (on top of the sale price)!:beer:

So here's a question, has anyone thought of using one of the NAVRGB units to incorporate this into the MFD screen in the dash as a second input? I was thinking the only thing that would suck is if you needed anything other than the main information you'd have to use the tablet, etc. For as much as people spend on some of the mods, a 200 tablet that sits in the car plugged in all th time isn't really all that much.

I use this scan tool:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/ELM327-Bluetooth-OBD2-OBDII-CAN-BUS-Interface-Auto-Diagnostic-Scanner-Scan-Tool-/250939390393?pt=Motors_Automotive_Tools&hash=item3a6d2739b9&vxp=mtr

And I was curious if anyone else ran into a similar issue I am having with it. It works great with Torque and does everything I need it to do, BUT if I leave it plugged in, it basically disables my factory keyless entry. Once I unplug the bluetooth adaptor, the keyless entry works again.

Never had that problem.

Awesome thread guys... I'm about to do the same and the info you've put out there is terrific! I own an iPhone but will probably just buy a cheap cr@p phone to install permanently in my cruiser. I'm interested in the BT modules that have the sleep function so I can leave it plugged in.

Unfortunately for those of us who are Apple lemmings, Torque is not available for iPhone or ipad.

If I remember correctly the dash command app is quite expensive. I do have the dash command app on my iPhone but have never tried to use it on my 100. I originally bought one of those cheap wireless transponders and was never able to get it to work on my STI and never tried on my 100.

I just ordered a new "real" transponder for ~$140. From the reviews I read on the cheap ones it seems that many of them are either very slow to update and/or they just periodically decided not to connect any more.

Dash command also has an app that works on the pioneer app head units. So if I can get it to work with this new transponder I may install one of those pioneer units in my 76.

My new transponder is currently being shipped from my house in the US to Saudi. When it arrives I'll publish an update to see how Dash Command works on the 70, 100 and 200 series, maybe an 80 series too if I can find a loaner (although I'm not sure if any of the 80 series used OBD-ii).

Yep, dashcommand for iPhone is $49 (free on android), check the apps listed for PLX though in the link below
***NOTE*** For Apple devices you need WiFi (not bluetooth) for anyone thinking about ordering one

Best for Apple I've seen is the PLX Kiwi2 WiFi - also has sleep mode -Go to the PLX site and they have a list of iTunes apps to use with this device.
http://www.plxdevices.com/product_info.php?id=GSST2WIFI

Best for android I've seen and purchased Scantool ODBLink MX bluetooth - also has sleep mode - They provide their own app + multiple app support, high speed, software, and big +++ firmware updates to support more features
http://www.scantool.net/obdlink-mx.html

Scantool offers one for Apple but is $$$ more than Kiwi2

I just looked the reader I ordered is made by PLX Devices and is called the "PLX Kiwi 2 Wifi". It was $119 from amazon (before tax and shipping).

Really interested in getting something like this. Anyone have any updates?

Just thought I would give my info to iphoners. I had the Scanguage 2 in my 4runner and it was awesome I fell in love instantly but Torque blows it out of the water. I use Torque and have loved it so far. I have the Samsung Note so it works perfect...once the S4 comes out in the states im going to move to that phone and make the Note my permanent HUD.

As far as iPhone turtleneck mafia users. You CAN use the torque app and the elm bt adapter but you must root - jailbreak your phone. The way apple works with there apps and just about everything else, is that it is a proprietary device meaning that the developers would have to pay to develop software on the iphone stack hence the available apps/adapters being expensive because developers have to pay bills too. Hence Android being full open source allowing anyone to create an application. This is not for the Torque app but the actual BT dongle, once the Dongle is paired you can use the open source of your jailbroken phone to get android APKs. The bluetooth adapter will not even connect without being jailbroken. Get open source peeps! For those of you who do have iphones check out this link for how to connect the bluetooth device to a jailbroken phone.

I believe it is hit or miss and you should check your current software prior to doing this especially the Jailbreak!

Nice write up. So is torque great enough and accurate enough to justify getting a android tablet just for permanent install in the truck?

I think that's a little overkill with a tablet but to each his own I guess...I am not sure that the tablet and the Torque app will make it any different allowing you to put more real time displays up it will just make them larger and easier to see but I mounted my note by my driver side pillar and its just like having a normal tuner screen.

But to answer your question I say yes its worth it...To be able to manage all of that information for only probably 40$ including dongle which I got with my Amazon Prime account and then the cost of the app.

Also, I noticed on the newest update you can increase the response time between the phone and dongle so the developer is definitely putting effort into making it a bad ass app. Plus all the layouts and colors allow you to personalize it...After owning this I would not go back to a Scanguage other than I liked how compact the Scanguage was.

My friend who still owns his 4Runner...Ive since retired from the T4R.org forums since my Hundy..He had a check engine light so I wanted to test the torque ability...Not only does it read and tell you the code (p4020 in his case) but it tells you what the code means and allows you to click on it to search google for fixes. Thought it was a cool feature and his CEL is still off to this day!

I've been using the jailbroken iPhone with the ELM 327 bluetooth dongle and using the "roqyBT4" app from Cydia to connect the dongle to the iPhone. It actually works pretty well. The Cydia app is 5 Euro's (I think it's a russian built app) but it works really well.

Apps that I've tried: Fuzzy Car - ($6) - Pretty basic, but you can monitor MPG, read and clear codes and monitor things like O2 sensors, MAP sensors, some fuel stuff, voltage etc... It's ok.

Rev Lite - (Free) This is useless. It will connect to the dongle and tell you what things it can read when you pay the $40 for the real program. I've heard the paid app is fairly decent.

Engine Link ($5) - So far this has been the most worth while. It keeps pretty good track of MPG's and gives a semi-decent list of sensors to monitor.

None of these are even close to the quality app that Torque makes.

I'll keep you posted as to what else works!

I've been researching this for awhile now and I'm pretty sold on Torque at this point. Thanks for the update and great description.

I just received my PLX Kiwi in the mail yesterday and got the Torque Pro app. My MIL came on prior so I took it too O-Reiley's to get the scan done and they said the o2 sensor on the upstream #1 was bad. I bought the Bosch sensor and replaced it, but still getting the MIL. Checked with the Torque App and it still says Bank 1 O2 sensor is the issue. Has anyone used the Bosch brand O2 sensors. It seemed pretty simple to connect, but maybe I didn't hook up the wires correctly on their quick connect plugin. I guess I should've went OEM.

I would be interested in all of the settings some one used for a fairly modified rig. For example I have a Front ARB, Winch, BOIR SKIDS, Slee Sliders, BOIR Rear with Dual Carriers, Lift, Fridge. running 295/75r/16 bfg's with a 2.5"-3" lift.

If some one has a similar set-up, I Would love to here your settings.

Pushing this back to the top. I have mainly used this for pulling codes. But, I want to play around with it some more and log some info. I would like to get my profile as accurate as I can. Particularly I am curious what you are putting for

  • boost adjustment
  • volumetric efficiency
  • MPG Trim
  • OBD Speed Multiplier
  • etc.
Thanks!

I have NEVER gotten my MPG numbers to even be in the ballpark using Torque. I gave up. :meh:

I don't think I'd buy a tablet just for scanning codes and getting live data. But, considering you can use the tablet as a big screen GPS and maybe as a search engine for businesses etc on the road if equipped with live data transfer, then yes, it becomes interesting and if available would alleviate the need for a dedicated device like a scangauge or ultra. There must also be some obsolete quasi-free Android phones out there that could work, no?
