Hi all,

As part of a front axle rebuild, I have cleaned a number of the castings (knuckle etc.) and am going to POR them before re-assembly.

If I apply a topcoat (tremclad, I think it's rustoleum in the states), do I need to wait for the POR to fully cure and scuff it? Or will it hold if applied after the POR has been touch-dry for a day or two?

Also, I am using the silver POR, does this stand up to UV light better than the others, or does it still need to be topcoated?

Thanks,
Curtis

Wait and scuff, then shoot over the top.

You may want to use the tie-coat primer as well, but I never have, with good results.

Let it dry, sand it with some 600 grit and you should be good. Straight from the POR15 site. I think you can also wait until it is tacky then spray a dusting of primer, then let it dry and spray with a couple full coats of primer and paint.

I topcoat when it gets tacky. I use the patented latex glove test. When the glove sticks, but no paint is transfered, I topcoat. (with great results to date)
