Hey Guys,

I scored a great deal on a set of Mickey Thompson MTZ tires, but now I am worrying that maybe they will be too big to fit under my troopy without rubbing/issues.

These are 285/75/16's, and will be going on my stock split rims, as well as stock, non lifted 83 HJ47 troopy.

Too big, or will they fit? If they are too big, what sizes can be run without issues? Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,
Abe

33's or more, should be OK but will rub maybe on a hard steer or articulating.. You will notice the change in gear ratio too.

I ran that size tire on a stock troopy. It will rub a little in the front on hard steering right/left when articulating. The rear rubbed slightly on medium compression. I don't recall exactly the BS of the rims used - they weren't splits. A mud member erics now has the rig, so he might be able to clarify the rim BS.

I can put a tape on those wheels if you need... not sure that the spring on the troopy are stock though.

I agree with the above - they will fit with some rubbing. However, splitties are only 5.5" wide, so I would be more concerned about the middle of the tire wearing out quickly and the odd handling characteristics with only a few inches of tread on the ground.

I've found that split rims make very nice bases for signs, stools, jack stands and the like but I'm yet to be convinced of their suitability as rims.:D
