Where are your planned camping stops? You could shave a bit of time by going out of Saline over South Pass. I'm planning a similar adventure, but I may actually drop into Death Valley itself for a change.

That's the route I was thinking of doing this spring. Ambitious but doable. I'd likely take a whole week and spend a few days in Saline Valley though.

Eureka dunes, hot springs, Hunter Cabin.... Geologist Cabin area....
Hunter cabin - is that in South Park/pleasant canyon area?

A few years back my wife and I did Reno to Eureka Dunes, then the dunes to Geoligist Cabin in 2 days. Day 3 was return to Reno. Doable but not recommended. It looks way easier on a map but many of those roads are 15mph with pretty horrendous washboard. Try to get to the cabin midweek because it is usually occupied Fri-Sun. Really cool scenery though with lots of wild temperature changes. Be prepared for wind at the dunes.

Thanks for the heads up....
Yeah, weather will dictate this trip... we are going in on winter mode with clothig and summer mode for water... Im not planning on camping near any of the cabins or mines as I think the park rules deter doing this.. disperse camping will be the name of the game

Nah I've done it a handful of times in 2-3 days. Both in my truck and on bikes. Its a great time! Just depends how much time you want to spend hanging out

Nothing deterring staying at the various cabins. People or groups have adopted many of them over the years and there is a certain etiquette for their use, etc...

There are some nice places to camp among the rock outcrops just north of the Geologist's cabin.

I want to enter Death Valley from the north as you are. Let me know how it is. I'm planning on doing it March 15-ish
