because of the over sized pinion the bearing, slinger, seal and flange are different. Other than that they will fit all 80 series housings.

I'll leave it up to you to figure out if an original gear set out of an 80 is compatible to your housings.

So Rick, how high were the front wheels off the ground the first time?
:p
I did manage to twist off a front driveshaft on the 60 this weekend:rolleyes:

Is this suppose to be in this location?

Well, 45 min. teardown w/ hand tools. I would hate to do this on the trail... :censor: I've broke alot of stuff, but the pinion stops you clean. It was hard to get it back in w/ just front wheel drive, of course the pinion gear fell inward.:flipoff2:

Not bad for 112,000 miles of road wear(v8 since 80,000) and plenty wheeling to boot. I made this sacrafice in me driveway...:D These are the original coarse spline pinions.

Got my Alcan springs back today. They were supposed to make me a new main leaf. Turns out all they did was flatten the rear springs so that I will be able to bolt it up. I contacted Kurt at Cruiser Outfitters on a 2.5" lift.

Wow...I have never dealt with Alcan before, and after hearing this I doubt I ever will. Can't understand how they thought that would solve anything.

Going to send them back?

Well I have already sent them back once at a cost of $75 to myself. I didn't think that it was right for me to have to pay for shipping. I made this very clear when I was talking to Charles. He told me that he was already loosing money since he was going to fix them and cover this shipping back to me so if I wanted them corrected then he I would have to pay to ship them to him. He was supposed to replace the main leaf. I asked him what about the military wrap as the pin needs to be moved when the springs were lengthened. I told him that I didn't want him to just redrill the military leaf since it would too need to be longer. He said they don't half ass things.

I was able to tell they were my original leaf spring because I have painted them but I masked off the Alcan sticker and they are the exact same length but just flattened so I could bolt them on. I checked the new spring vs the old spring and I will be lucky if I am able to see 2". Probably less once I get some weigth on the truck.

Originally when I told him my spring hangars were 50" apart he said mine were incorrect and they should have been 49" apart.

I know JP has had a number of issues with his Alcan's. Most recently the ones he sent back wound up on eBay marked as "new"

That blows Jay. Proffitt's Cruisers is about an hour away from Alcan in Colorado and they won't even use Alcan springs. Proffitts would save big $$$ on shipping by buying from Alcan but they don't due to quality issues.

Going to go OME. I think I had talked myself into not wanting to wheel it hard and use is more as a daily driver anyway.

Even if you wheel it hard, it will only be 2-3x per year anyway

as you know I sell stuff for cruisers and I can tell you that margins are really small do to the fact that this is a hobby and most aren't going to have the spendable income to pay higher margins.

Now I'd like to say I make money on every sale but that just isn't the case.

IMO in those cases you have a responcibility to make things right as you said during the sales process.

As I've told people befiore, you don't judge a company by how they act in good times but you judge them on how they act in bad ones.

my front springs have been fine but I am on my 3rd set of rears. the current ones seem to be holding the truck up but the ride is far from soft.. you may want to consider getting some longer shackles in he rear to make up for the loss of height unless you can get them to take it all back. that will be a huge hassle from what i have experienced dealing with them. totally sucks that they can't stand by their product and have some weird data base that tells them the wrong cruiser dimensions. my front spring eyes they made 18mm instaed of the stock 15mm. made for a fawked set of front shackels and some steering slop. I have since gotten rid of that with the SR and it wasn't until the SR that I found out how much slop there was.
anyway if you are goign to go a whole new suspension. make sure you get your money back!!!

I think the only way I will be getting my money back it to sell the front springs and see if I can find a use for the rear springs. Charles was a real ass to deal with. I couldn't even get him to cover the cost of shipping and he doesn't admit fault. I purchased the springs a year an a half ago so its not like I can even attempt to cancel a credit card payment.

Right now I would rather have it cost a little more to do it right than to use a half assed product.

Alcan Sucks

I would put that as my signature if I was you.

I have used OME since "02" and they are great. I went w/ the 40 set-up and then changed the rears a while later, now I run the front springs all the way around.
My original set was OME and after that they changed to the DAKAR series.
I spoke w/ Alcan about a set of 55 rears (custom by them) and the guy was an Ass. Screw those clowns and everyone should know it. If a post is started w/ Alcan Springs and its negative all who search will find it.

ALCAN SPRINGS SUCK :flipoff2: AND THEIR SERVICE SUCKS TOO :flipoff2:
