I have the front spindle taken apart and most of the cv axle removed. Struggling to get the one end to pop out of the differential. Friend of Sheri's is going to auto tech school and was just delivered $$$ of snap-on tools, so might have my hands on a proper slide hammer soon.

You need a medium sized crow bar, there is a notch on the inside of the cv, it is fairly easy once you find the sweet spot.

$35 for a slide hammer at PepBoys. CV came out two wacks later. Replacing seals, and putting it back together now.

One of my favorite tools. Used this to clamp the slide hammer to the CV.

UPDATE 8/12/11 All back together and ready for more intermediate adventures. Putting together a trail kit to do this job in the field. Thanks to FJNortheasters for tips and encouragement... "just beat the snot out of it with a hammer."

I "accidentally" ;) won a proper CB on ebay this weekend so I'll be swapping out my wonky/semi-not-working stock stereo for a cheap single-din with an iPod hook up and the CB.

A setup something like this.... https://forum.ih8mud.com/80-series-tech/53273-anyone-install-cb-like.html#post666059

The new CB is a Cobra 18 WX ST II that I got for $25 shipped. My rear bumper already has a spot to mount an antenna so I'll pick up a 4' fiberglass antenna and get it all installed at some point here.

Rick has that same set up.
I wanted to do this myself but decided to go fancy pants touchscreen double din with my cb in the ashtray spot.
The HAM radio I think will fit nicely around the center console.

Ok, so I had a little gasoline leak and clutch hydraulic fluid leak in the past.
It's all fixed now...and all repainted. Ain't it purty? Got the OEM bottle jack working, and the tool bag cleaned up too.

Thanks. 2 days of prep work, an hour painting, and an half day putting everything back together

Thanks, but I'm Edward, usually "Ed", except my kids who call me Yo.

Oh boy, new OEM gear reduction starter just arrived. Had the old starter off in 10 minutes. Need a longer cable to battery and, while I'm at it, I might as well replace the 33 year old ground cable, bolts, clean engine,...

PROGRESS at last! (Wish I had a backhoe to deal with some of my junk - LOL)

Can't wait til you get her going again Jonny. That Landcruiser has a lot of old memories
