FJC with 80 Series Rims.webp

Sequoia, Tacoma & Tundra wheels. My FJC alloys are 16's, but not TRD's. I'd be happy with another set of those if I could get them cheap.

Found the conversion info on the FJ Forum, you are right about the spacers. 1/4" needed for the front although some people have been "polishing" the calipers. Sequoia wheels do fit apparently. I will be looking for 5 of something and use spacers on the front if the price on LC wheels is cheap enough.

I'm interested in your Old Man Emu MEDIUM rear springs. Are those the 895 or 895E?

I'm also interested in the aluminum diamond plate rear quarter panels if they are precurved to fit and have the marker like openings.

Bring them with you if you can.

got the v8 centered and installed into Wilma the mounts are in and the tranny crossmember has been set up as well. the exhaust is back in and welded up now just setting up the rest of the essentials like the radiator ps pump wiring and alternator. so close,,, a week maybe two... see how much time I can barrow from sleep.

Figured that I better start on some body work. The top had this wierd flanged cap that a previous owner rivited on. Anyone have any guesses why? I have no clue.

I drilled out the rivits and cut the area out with a Harbor Freight body saw. I don't think it really liked cutting through 16ga. sheet.

I took some duct tape and put it over the hole and was able to see a pattern and cut out a piece of metal from an old hood I had. I cut it a little larger and then used a scribe to mark what I needed to clean up further. Here is how it turned out.

Going to make a few more patches and try my hand at a little sheet metal work.

Humm, maybe an internal shower????
Nice job on the patch

HJ-45CrewCab sold me a set of OME rear springs for my FJC at a very fair price. Thanks again Ernie!

Now that most of my driveway is free of ice, I felt safe running the truck up my ramps to view the undersides. Seems my idea of adding a complete set of skid plating isn't a bad one. There's a lot of vulnerable stuff under there and the stock protection is a bit on the wimpy side. I'm thinking of buying either the complete set from BudBuilt or Ricochet.

I am in the process of getting a quote on All-Pro rock sliders. Trail Gear sliders are cheaper, but the All-Pro seem beefier, add more clearance and have the kickout to protect the back quarters.

I am also debating front bumpers. I like the OME, lots of protection. Unfortunately, it is also 150 pounds and doesn't provide the best approach angle. Again, I'm considering All-Pro. Less obtrusive and 1/2 the weight of the ARB. Both choices are around $1000 with shipping, I hate having to pay so much for shipping!

Back to being under the truck. It turns out I have the same Bilstein shocks that come standard on the Trail Teams Edition. I found a front coilover kit from ToyTec that utilizes the current shocks and allows from 0-3" adjustability. So, I can have lift and adjust for the changing weight of adding an aftermarket bumper, skidplating and perhaps a winch without having to also buy new shocks or changing out the springs later on. The only other issue is the rears. The added height (2" or so) of the OME's I bought from Ernie may require longer rear shocks to accomodate the extra height.

I can't do all the changes at once, not enough cash on hand. But I will be armoring and lifting first and then adding new 255/85/16 KM2s when I get back from Moab in May.

I'm really liking the FJC, I've already put 1000 miles on it since I bought it 12 days ago. Did I mention I'm getting 20 mpg ;>)

Can't go wrong with BudBuilt, great stuff, donates to our raffle, used to be a member before he moved south!

Hey I have a metal tech front bumper for sale if interested

Turns out the '08 FJC I bought has the so-called "Off Road Package". That includes 16" wheels instead of 17's, BFG Rugged Trail tires (don't make that trail too rugged or slippery as they are only 14/32nds new) plus the Trail Teams Edition Bilstein shocks.

I'm considering the ToyTec coilover suspension that gives me 4 new coils and is compatible with my stock Billy's.

Today I pulled the trigger on five BFG KM2's in size 255/85/16. I will post up some pix when I have them mounted.

Incredible deal! - I had an eBay discount coupon plus a pay today with PayPal eBay triple bucks back deal worth another $50. By the time I was done with the eBay perks it was like getting 5 tires with shipping to my door in NH from Ohio for hardly more than it was going to cost me for the best price for 4 anywhere else. That includes the 2 tire/parts stores my B-I-L manages.

I lucked out with all the extra eBay perks I had that end in the next day or two, they were worth substantial. I wasn't going to pop for tires until returning from Moab in May, but the eBay combo was too hard to overlook. I'll eat cereal for the next month now that I blew my wad.

Discount Tire Direct has an ongoing FJCruiser forum discount that gives you $50 off if you buy 5 tires instead of 4. Discount Tire Direct also has an optional road hazard guarantee that replaces any tire for free (including shipping) as long as the damaged tire has remaining treadlife. That includes off road damage and no prorating. Tear a tire on a rock or stump and they send you a new one! If you are a member of the Blue Room, they discount the package. They will cover 5 tires for the cost of your paying for 4.

I do want to say that Sam at Discount Tire Direct (extension 51814) couldn't have been more helpful assisting me. DTD will definitely be the first place I look to buy tires from now on. Call them and punch in his extension, he's user friendly toward the FJC owners! I'll be looking to him when I pull the trigger on some KM's for my Tan FJ40.

My many thanks to Sam. Discount Tire Direct, eBay and the Blue Room!

Tonight's wrenching-
Truck took a left, birf took a right. Roadside repair at 11pm on the side of route 18 on st. Pattys day night = high blood pressure.
I thought tonight was "lucky" for us irish folks?
Broken birfs should happen on the trail!

this v8 swap I am undertaking has been a lot more work than I expected. the garage it is being done at is run by an chevy truck enthusiast that has 6 or 7 chevies of all years. any way he is meticulous and it is getting done right he has it on his spare lift that he reserves for his projects and he works on it when he has lulls or when I can come down after work., which has been like 3 nights a week the last few weeks as well as 4-5 hours on Saturdays. I have been chasing down all the odd ball parts like what gas pedal to use and getting the ps line made up at a local hydraulic shop. i am using the Downey ps box that they had made up for them, while its nice and smooth and noticeably smoother than the Saginaw box I was running from Napa, you have to use their low profile fittings and their lines are 1/4" and the return line fitting on the saginaw pump is 3/8" so now I have to track down a 1/4 to 3/8" barb. :( its the little chit that is killing me. and alot of back and forth to hardware/ boat stores, Napa, autozone and hitting the interweb
it seems that it is 2 steps forward one step back.
i pick up the drive shafts Monday and today the gas pedal is due in. i don't remember the 2f going in being this time consuming, maybe its because i had a land cruiser to drive while i did that install :) for the past 2 months its been me on my bike.

Took my radiator out of the 80 today. Then found out I lost all of my power steering fluid on my driveway. 1 step forward and 2 steps back with this 80. I still love it, I think.

sorry to hear that Chip. Mike's PS pump is leaking pretty bad. Of course he doesn't say anything until he can't steer the truck anymore and it's howling like crazy.

All the o-rings are starting to fail on these trucks and Toyota used them everywhere.

a kit and about an hours work will rebuild these pumps if that is where the leak is from.

Spring Time for the Tan 40 today.

Refilled the clutch and brake reservoirs - where does all that fluid go? Pulled the plugs and fogged the cylinders with oil. Cranked her over a bit and then cleaned the plugs and reinstalled. Fired right up and backed her out of the garage. Blew the tires up to 35 and bled the clutch. Added 5 gallons of $3/gal gas (those were the days) from a can I bought for the plow truck back in January and headed out for a 20 mile 2 gallon spin around the block. Got stuck in the snow a bit on one trail since I since I refused to drop the tire pressure and had to back 1/4 mile out.

I can't wait for Mud Season to end so I can wheel her again. We should be ready for the Spring Meeting as long as it passes inspection next month, no real worries there. Everything works as it did last year and less than 1000 miles since the last stickah :)
