hi, i have looked at a bunch of pictures and looked but i'm not sure what the obolong , donut on the passenger side frame rail is on a 98 cruisers purpose is. it looks like double donuts. i don't have a good manual but it just sticks out there and is b*))& ugly and i am sure if the Toyota engineers put it on it was for a reason and i want to know.

regards, m..a.d.

It is a vibration dampner. Mine is in the scrap steel pile next to my house.

got it. i think the engineers went a little overboard on the smoothness and ride of these trucks.

thank you for the information.

What happens, if anything, when it is removed?

my truck fell apart when I took it off. Had to reassemble it with the damper in place, what a nightmare that was.

Yes, they did! There are 8 sizes and are harmonically matched to the individual trucks after assembly.

If anyone asks you what the difference is between a Tahoe and the LC this is a good example.

Wonder what the dampener costs to replace.

According to toyodiy.com, it's $197.30. Most likely cheaper from C-Dan. It seems like from what I've read there's 8 different variations, however, the one I looked up for a North American UZJ100 calls it:

51259A WEIGHT, NO.4 CROSSMEMBER DUMPER
51259‑60010 UZJ100 1 $197.30

It says "DUMPER", that explains why I couldn't find it by searching for "DAMPENER"!

Mine doesn't have one, does that mean it's already in perfect harmony??

Vibration reducer?
My LX does have a little vibration - maybe I should just remove it.

Took mine off this morning - just x2 14mm bolts.
Check Engine light cleared, getting 25mpg, and my Transmission switched to 5-speed mode.

Seriously, until you guys informed me that it was a "vibration damper", I had no idea
what it was - just guessed it was a floor jack assist point.
This "vibration damper" seems kinda lame - what Rube Goldberg engineer came up with this POS???
On a Lexus no less.
Any other boar hog tits on these beasts?

It's all because of the disharmonic V8 engine. No need if you have a perfectly balanced, perfectly harmonious, inline 6. :flipoff2:

sorry to correct; the "thingy" is also mounted on my 07 LC 4700 petrol inline 6.

D@mn it - you scr€wed my theory :(
