Since I have been crawling around under my Cruiser a lot lately. I got to wondering what this part was that was bolted to the passenger side frame.

It looks useless, so I took it off. Maybe it was for shipping.

Any thoughts?

Uh oh. That's the only thing that kept gamma rays from getting past the frame and into the cabin. Since I learned about this sometime ago I have reinstalled mine. The geiger counter has been almost silent since I put it back on.

I made the same mistake, but reinstalled it too late. Now my 100 has a nice green glow at night.

Gamma rays. It is always something......

I did look, but how do search for something if you don't even know what it is?

Besides, it is a nice picture of a frimbus dampener.

Just wait until I have to adjust my muffler bearings. Then you will have a good laugh.

I am glad that I embarrassed myself for everyones enjoyment.

But seriously, you have to give Toyota kudos for adding this thing to reduce some form of vibration in the frame. It just goes to show the level of refinement they were looking for in a vehicle that spends most days working in other parts of the world instead of going to the mall.

That being said, I am keeping it off until I feel weird harmonics traveling through the Cruiser while on my way to the mall.......

We really need to get this on the FAQ. With a small picture maybe.

"What M. T has brought together, Let no man separate" - They didn't add these things to be cute or to comply with a silly regulation. I'm leaving mine on in case it is needed. If I start removing all the parts I don't understand there won't be much left.

There are five different sizes to properly tune the frames.

Could be that you keep it off until you get a fracture in a crossmember or something, because of harmonics you can't feel.... What do I know.
Just a thought.

Its a damper to prevent a harmonic signal that causes sonic lines in the helagen fluid in the headlight globes, causing the lights to pulse.

Can have a similar effect on the orange fluid in the indicators in extreme cases.

Thanks Darren,

So On or Off? in your opinion?

That sounds quite sensible to me. I have been thinking about taking that part off, but... you've made me think better.

You are in good company. I asked the same question a year or two ago.

I thought maybe it was a jack lift point that protected the frame rail.

Later learned about the harmonics and deleterious effects on the halogens. Also noted after removing it for a few days that my blinker fluid light came on. Topped off the blinker fluid, put the dampener back on, and haven't had any headlight or blinker issues since.
