It's been forever since i posted any updates on work being done. I have been swamped at work and then traveling like a mad man. Work has finally settled down and all the studying is over.

last week i went to texas (mexico = crazy right now so no cheap booze) and on the way home i saw wimberly 4x4 for the 3rd time without stopping.... so i called him. the dude is straight up and loves arkansas, says he is moving here. I was just amazed at how many 60s this guy has, he has so many that he is having to "crush" them to make room! the bad thing part is he doesnt have an online store and he doesnt talk on mud.

back to the work:

drivers seat
custom armrest

the drivers seat needed the usual repair and i just had the local ol' timer do it up. he has been doing upholstery for 38 years and it shows.

After i got the chair back i wanted to give him some more business so i quickly went home and made an armrest mount so that i dont have to let my shifter hand dangle in free space anymore. he beefed it up pretty high and it feels awesome.

How are the shackle angles? And what tire pressure do you run? That can really effect the ride a lot.

There is no reason why it shouldn't be as "smooth" as smooth on a 60 can be.

The shackle angles are good but the rear shocks are almost bottomed out and still mounted above the axle on the original mounts. When I hit bumps at high speed it bucks.

I need to re-work my suspension as well. Had to lose a shock for my rear e-locker and my front shocks are blown. Oh well, at least there's always something to do!

UPDATE time

For the past few weeks its been cold and snowy and the cruiser has been loving it. Today i was up in the mountains looking at land and i ran into a possible problem. I drove in on the creek bank and decided to go climb the hill out. My buddy was videoing and we realized that my front tires werent spinning out like the rear tires were. The rear tires seemed to be the only ones that were powered when i topped out and lost traction. i was in 4LO.


What gives? this normal?

Today i took my welder in to get repaired and while i was out i stopped by the local suspension shop and they gave me some quotes on shocks for the rear. I've got new mounts to get the rear shocks located onto the rear axle. as it sits right now, i've got 16" center to center.

What i am clueless about is the length of travel i need. I have a bad sag problem although im running flat rear leafs. I'd like to take a little out but im hesitant to do so after dropping cash on shocks. anyone running the same setup? look at my above pics...


Also, I've got a leak im unsure of. I changed the oil last week and have a little coming from the pan, but if you look to the right, the flywheel inspection plate has a leak on the bottom bolt?! rear main seal? why would that be leaking?


Things i need from the H8 folks: some feedback!


-I'm thinking of either fox proseries reservoir or bilstein 5150s

Go flex your truck and measure that will get the travel needed for your shocks.

I would just get some procomp or skyjacker shocks...they have blems on ebay for what they really do no need for $$$ shocks on these trucks. You can get all four to you for about $100.

I've tried to get in contact with some of the dudes in the AR chapter to see if anyone lives in my area. ill be balls deep in the outage during that time. I'd like to get together with other arkies, ive got tons of trails up here but no one who likes toyota.

Are you sure its motor oil?

Smell it and make sure its not gear oil from the front of the transmission.

Rear Mains are kinda funny, I think mine is leaking and its less than 3 years old.

I'm fairly certain, I'm worried about too much collecting by my clutch and flywheel. The leak seems to be getting worse. I haven't checked the tranny oil in a week. If it is gear oil, what seal would bE the culprit?

finally got tired of the rear sag, so with some help from my newly aquired lift she got a new @$$

Took about 2.5 hours and im glad i had a buddy helping out. I havent put the new shocks on yet, i need to weld the new mounts to the axle.

I wanted some cheap 10" travel shocks, so I searched around for a while on summit and found some eye-to-eye 10" travel shocks that I believe came out of the front of an explorer.

After much research and way too much consideration i have finally finished the rear shocks on the cruiser. I ended up going with some fox 2.0 emulsions after the 5150s i got didnt fit correctly.

With some help from the welder and a few beers there are some nice new mounts my rear shocks call home. i went with some custom fab mounts from ruffstuff specialties Axle Side Mount Shock Brackets - RuffStuff Specialties

They take some grinding cutting and adjustment but when they are done they are good to go. I wanted to put mine centerline of the axle because we have alot of medium size rocks that line our trails and can really beat the hell out of most shocks mounted below the axle.
