Earlier this week I received a solicitation to buy an FJ55 in Illinois. Since I don't know anyone from that state I was curious how they acquired my home address. So, I'm reminded once again to bring up the issue of personal information in the TLCA database.

DO NOT USE MY PERSONAL INFO FOR MARKETING!

I make no accusations and I'm not mad at anyone. I don't know how this guy got my address and I really don't care. However, in case anyone decides the TLCA database is available for distribution, the answer is no. TLCA has no right to use personal information for marketing unless TLCA receives permission from each member.

I trust the current board is aware that releasing personal information is a crime unless the club has permission from the member.

Thanks, lurk mode back on.

Nick,

It came from Toyota Trails. Remember being a BOD member? Members have that info. We have not and will NEVER sell that information to anyone. I received it as well as I'm guessing everyone that had an address in the TT that they were using.

I got the same solicitation...this is the 2nd time in a few months that I recall...

not sure where they are gleaning the info from, but they are thorough :)

Thanks Art!

I'm reassured. Like you, I have nothing against individuals trying to find good homes for trucks and parts.... but, I would be really PO'd if our info went to spammers.

Thanks again,
Nick

Yup I got it too. And since I have the DB, I know they didn't get the info from that. That DB is heavily protected by me & I don't provide any info from it unless a TLCA member (verified) contacts me looking for contact info. That is agreed upon on the application.

so if this person is a TLCA member and contacted you with interest in starting a club, what stops them from using the addresses for other purposes?

Nada thing. And what prevents anyone from going to whois.net and pulling a mailing address for a URL.

ALL of your personal info is on the 2nd page of every Toyota Trails magazine I can find at my house, but your first responce is to blast TLCA in a semi public forum and threaten legal action. Who are you really mad at?

Oh, this should be entertaining;p

To be clear, no TLCA member has ever contacted me with anything more than a request for their chapter's list or a list of members in their zip code in the hopes of starting a chapter. If you read the membership application, it says that your info can be given to other TLCA members.

No point in feeding trolls.
My uncle used to remind me what the speed limit was whenever I drove beyond the speed limit. He wasn't threatening me with legal action, just reminding me of the law.
I think I made my point.

Buzz Kill:lol:

Nick, you are right of course. Once again I am reminded of how much I can learn from you Sir.

I just got a call yesterday from a woman in SC trying to sell a really clean 40. She said that her husband was too sick to sell it. She sent pics and everything. Might be real but I thought it was fishy. She got my name and number from some info on the Southern Cruiser Crawl. I pointed her toward e-bay and the classified here on MUD.

And I thank you and TLCA for doing that. That's how we got another UC chapter up and going. It really can help to bring in new members into the local clubs.

To reiterate what has been posted above, All elected officers have their personal info printed in Toyota Trails. I get calls and emails regularly for things like this. It goes with the territory of being a TLCA officer, past or present.

Happy cruisin'!

Don't forget that club contact info is printed as well.

I got the same letter in the mail twice??

Hey Nick not to sidetrack this thread... are you no longer doing the tlca thing?

No matter, if you ever have the need to fly out here to Vancouver Island I would put you up and if you were interested in some wheeling fishing or whatever please call me and I will make it happen including picking you up at the airport and putting you up at our house.

Your kindness when I was visiting you was very exceptional and I thank you.

PS, the kids(doges) are more than welcome even tho the flights might be a deal killer for them.

Hope your family is well.

If you do not come out, I will hopefully come back next year for the round up, only if Marlin shows up again(just kiddin).

Rob
