no answer from Rob. would anyone have any good reason to talk me out of buying the the above 85, and selling my 94. seems like my heart for autos lies in the 80's and i want to go back for some reason... like p/t 2wd, less plastic, diesel efficiency... maybe cheaper insurance?
- is anyone out there the type that would want to go look at this thing? - PM me your number, eh - cause i know little; i just have a feeling this more my type of era. and i'd like to go check it out!
 
Well you are buying by the looks of things a well used truck.
Kiss the creature comforts goodbye. You will never pay the swap to a diesel off, yet again if you sell your 80 you will come out probably on top.
Regardless the thing will probably need a bunch of stuff gone through.
1k isn't much for a vehicle and is usually pretty easily salvageable.

Prolly a trans temp gauge.....maybe oil pressure..

Keep the 80 while you restore the 60. Keeps your options open. You'll have to budget at least 3-4 times the cost of that 60 for the repairs to be done. Looks like it's been sitting a long while. After a good pressure wash and vacuum, I'm going to say you'll need at minimum a new set of tires, full brake system rebuild, all new fluids. And likely it'll need rear frame work like almost all 60's do. Add to that suspension and exhaust work. The rust on the body at the rear is somewhat optional. I'm tempted by the truck too, but I've been down this path before, and i know how the repairs add up, even when I do all my own work.
 
so HJ is the 4 L diesel, ie no diesel swap, eh.

- i'll let u guys know what i hear. maybe im just infected with the cruiser virus, but i think this thing would be cheaper to insure, get 18mpg, and a break rebuild could be done.
is it a carb'd diesel or only the later ones are fuel injected? my mechanic friend needs me to do work on his house (he owns a 90's 4 cyl Toyota pick-up. do the diesels take very special mechanical knowledge, or would a heavy duty certified, works for the school district type mechanic know how to maintain or tool around with these?

- ps i think the mossy look can stay, :meh: plus all it may need is some of this: canadian made miracal stuff i've heard:

Time to start reading about diesel tech....;)

Diesels don't have carbs and are not 'fuel injected' as gasoline engines are. They have injection pumps driven by timing gears or a timing belt. The pump delivers a high pressure pulse of diesel via the injectors at the perfect time just before TDC. The diesel ignites instantly because of the high temperatures from the high compression ratio. No spark needed, just a little extra warming via glow plugs or a glow screen when the engine is cold started.

Yes, the 2H is a 4.0l 6 cylinder diesel. Indirect injection, which means it has precombustion chambers in the head. Around a 100hp or so I believe.

Trust me, you need to budget extra $$ to get that thing road worthy/safe. When a cruiser has been sitting long enough for the tires to sink into the ground, there is a lot of work that will have to be done. There is a good reason the guy is asking $1000 instead of $5000+
 
There's a clean looking hj up island for 6500. Forget where I saw it, either c/l or kijiji...

That 1k truck...I'd be thinking parts only, but I suppose it could be ok after a good pressure wash (inside and out...:lol:)
 
The frame is the biggest concern... If it's solid, it'd be worth the work... If not, I'd pass.

Did not know I had the ability to make 100 raging ponies, and yes. HJs are wonderfully heavy cars (surprisingly decent on gas). If its got low miles i'd do a swap for the H55.

By the look of the pics though, that gauge could be oil pressure (already put a hardline gauge on mine) and a suspicious red button on the dash could be a tell of a gnarly glow system.


Buy it, lift it, turbo it and wheel the s*** out of it. 2H is just amazing torque on the trails.
 
do you guys know if the above 60's auto trans is going to get any where near the manual for mpg?
- on that clean CL truck he's stating 27MPG.. manual.

- any opinions on the auto 4 speed? - i read on mud here it may actually rev lower than the 5 speed on the hwy... is it a, or any guess which one?
methinks this could be really cool expecially if oneday it could be veggie powered; opinions?

Seriously nothing wheels like an auto... like having another gear box reduction.. most people who comment on autos have never spent time in the drivers seat...its like cheating.....Plus most of us are to old to agree that the autos wheel better.., it is proven:p
