$$$, but if you do get this Nick, we'll do the conversion in my shop. I figure it'd go pretty quick.

Hey guys, yeah basically lack of $$ is stopping me. Also, my 2LTE is running like a champ, so it's hard to justify something like this (as much as I think the 13BT is the best 'small' Toyota diesel out there and would rock in a Prado - I'd love to have a DI engine).

I'd probably do the swap on a mint body Prado if I did. Mines starting to look a little rough after a couple years of west coast wheeling. I think this one with the 13BT and an H55 would be a wicked little Rig: http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/pml/cto/4482134617.html Could probably recover quite a bit of $$ by selling the 2LTE.

Thanks for the offer to use your shop Jon!

They don't actually fit without putting the heavy duty front clip on do they? if so you almost need a 70 series as a parts truck for that front couple feet of frame etc.

And then there's the low ass gearing to deal with that would have a B howling on the highway...

(yes I've thought about this conversion.)

yotahed put a 3B in his Prado without going to the longer front clip. I'd have to look back at his build thread to see what the challenges were; but I'm pretty sure it fit ok. It's the 5/6 cylinder engines that need the longer front clip.

The 4.88 gearing works out PERFECT with 32-33" tires. It's a perk IMHO.

You should still consider a 3B/13BT in a LJ78 if you can find one cheap enough (I have noticed its getting harder to find cheap LJ78...). A LJ78 has 95% the room, and definitely the comfort of an 80. But it's lighter, part time 4wd, less electronics, and narrower (makes for easier wheeling). The 8" diffs and coil setup give a surprising amount of clearance and are still very strong (find me a case of broken 8" diffs). The birfields are the larger variety that started around 1990. The split transfer case is the same as in the heavy duty models. Nice big four wheel disk brakes. I know you hate the RHD though...so that probably eliminates the Prado option...

Last time I went wheeling up by Duncan, as we were heading into the Glenora rd area I saw a couple parked Prados under a tree. Looked like they had been sitting for a while. Wonder if they are still there? Owner might part with one on the cheap....? Probably has a cracked head... Can't remember exactly where they were though.

Oh, found yotaheds 3B LJ78 swap thread: https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/1991-lj78-3b-turbo-swap.530888/

yeah, swapping to LHD kinda doubles the work. I have thought about it tho, but not really in the mood.
488's are too low for me in a 3b h55 truck...I don't really want 35's.

Engine swap into something clean (ish) is no biggee by comparison. Especially a dinosaur like a 3b.

Something will show up at some point...if I didn't dislike those hdt's and hanging a passenger out in traffic in the suicide seat in a rhd so much, it'd be a lot less work...

Is this the cruiser where the oil plug came out and the owner ran it till it seized?

http://www.usedvictoria.com/classified-ad/1991-HDJ81-Toyota-Land-Cruiser_22516332

I think he had it down to $4000 this past weekend. Wonder how f'ed that engine is inside and how major a rebuild it would need. I'm guessing at minimum new crank/cam and all new bearings. Wonder if the cylinder bores and pistons/rings would be ok having been somewhat lubricated by diesel? Judging by the factory issues with big end bearings, I'm guessing those would be first to go with no oil. Could be the rods got hot enough they'd need to be replaced too... Best to stay away from it I guess.

Monster fj for sale, i dont think a stock dana 60 could handle the power of a 383 and 44 inch tires though, and no idea what the front axle would be.

Another monster for sale, better axle combination for the tire size then the white one, and giant 468 big block.....

Yeah, leafs. It is a little tall; I'd probably reduce the lift if it were mine. And yes; bigger tires. Just dreaming here... Always wanted a HD 70 series, but never been in the budget (granted I've probably put that much $$ in the LJ by now :bang:)

Hey, I heard you were on another lake trip this weekend? What you doing posting on here?

Combination of things; forgot I had to deal with a work issue today. I had to use a payphone!?!? No
