I once saw on the forum someone who put a 3b in an 80 series. If anyone could do it, you could.

Yep, that'd be the plan. as easy as it gets with that much room.

More a question of whether I want to ,than if it's possible...it'd be a slow truck, but no worse than a stock 60.

Not having lockers and needing 400 bucks in parts to get the windows working kinda blows.

That and the half million K's on the axles...probably means everything is worn out and s***ty. meh.

If I'm going to deal with worn out and s***ty, I'll get a truck that's at least slightly cool.

3B 80 series. Gave that a lot of thought myself at one point. I 'might' have done it if you could get a base model 80 that wasn't saddled with all the luxo power BS. Stock 80 is really not that much heavier than a 60 :meh:. Probably a lot less rusty though.

Yeah, a lot less rusty...

I figger what extra weight there is would be cancelled out by the 4.11 gears...

It's the windows that really bug the hell out of me. I loathe f*&king around inside door panels.

On another note, I had a look at the cheap 80 (if anyone cares).

Oh really? I emailed but no reply. You say the frame and body is decent eh...? So pop my 1HD-T in there, give the windows a bit of love, and I've got myself a LHD diesel 80 eh... With 3rd row seats no less :bounce::bounce2:

But I think it is an FJ not an FZJ so the engine mounts would require some welding... :hillbilly:

Yeah, decent....

It's got the usual surface crust underneath, ( not black paint and shiny like jdm) but not rusty. needs a good hose down with some oil. Suspension doesn't look like it's ever been touched so probably lots of fun changing parts.

Body, paint is pretty drab, it's that baby s*** colour MrT was so fond of, faded and dull. A few rust bubbles on the tailgate etc, but nothing too serious.

( Coming from the perspective of a guy who's used to 60's and 40's...)

He wasn't great with emails when I got in touch with him, I think his # is in the ad tho.

Seemed like a good guy. Said he'd probably just drive it till it died, I guess his kids are using it.

My thoughts after looking at it was, that if I was going to go through all that hassle to do a diesel swap to an 80, I'd grab one from down south that was a little fresher, maybe with some cool crap bolted to it.

i emailed him awhile ago and said it was his moms... needs frame repairs and batteries... he said that she wouldnt take less than $1500 for it... maybe thats why its still for sale...

Did you ask how many KMS? I wonder if its been looked after maintenance wise?

looked at the email again and it didnt say anything about kms... but was wrong about the 1500... he said in the email that they have been offered 1500 for it but she wouldnt let it go for that cheap... so looks like they are wanting some coin for it... it should probably go in the thread with "people thinking there crap is gold"

I'm too lazy to search and get you the link at the moment, but there's a red 80 that "looks" a little nicer on the mainland for 1500.

Was on craigslist...

how can you tell it's boring at work today?

Cheeeeaaaap 80 !

I bought it, I kicked the tires in person when he originally had it up for sale, threw him an offer he refused. He called me days before Christmas and said come and get it.
Helps that I have several and a parts one here that gave me everything I need for the resurrection.

Amazed to see 175psi comp in all cylinders! It still sports the stock igntion components from 1992 (Toyota labelled ignition leads). It does have new alternator, new starter, new full exhaust (although the installer thought tack welding the new pipes to the headpipe was acceptable, so huge exhaust leak I had to weld up), tires are recently replaced, brakes were all like new, new oil change and a headlight bulb. Not a bad deal!

I did have to replace the rubber window run channels with some used one from my parts 80, replace the factory accessory belts because of heavy cracking and put a rear wiper arm on it, and I think I need to do a spindle bushing on the left front.

I gotta run, time to go beat on a cheap 80. lol

haha, I must've softened him up for you...I was there a while before christmas as well, kicking the tires and poo-pooing the truck. :hillbilly:

Yeah, I appreciate that, In fact I think you gave me an idea to name it. 'The toilet price deal'
