Not too satisfied with the stock jbl sound system in my cruiser. Not an audiophile so not sure whats wrong in it , but can hear some sound defects.Anyone knows what is the weak point in it? Is it the head unit, woofer, amp, or speakers? Wondering if i can replace it with lx570 levinson system from one of the junkyards.

What are you using for input? Try feeding it a good signal before you make change decisions. Most of the streaming services and downloaded stuff is so attenuated that it's hard for any sound system to be good. Given the degree of integration with all the other systems, I doubt it's reasonable to just switch out to an ML system. Others on here have experimented with speakers, signal processors, and additional amps. Run some searches for those and see what you find.

It’s not a swap out for sure, the lx570 and tlc run completely different audio buses, so you’d need to replace everything (nav sources amp). The tlc amp Does audio decoding off the MOST bus, so unless you can find a MOST amp that speaks Toyota/JBL then you can only amp the speaker level outs. It isn’t ideal for sure.

What do you mean by sound defects? What’s missing or what’s amiss?

And +1 on Sandroad’s suggestion.

Using mainly spotify audio via bluetooth. It sounds as if high and low frequencies are imbalanced and not strong enough. Given your commenta will most probably leave it as is untill get really fed up with the quality again. Thanks.

I feel the same when utilizing Bluetooth. The sound quality is much better through the USB port. However phone calls don’t work in my vehicle due to a conflict somewhere in the phone (iPhone 7 plus) or sound system.

Yup, I use the USB exclusively for music, both on phone and Apple Music. Sounds great on the JBL.

Phone call still comes thru fine on my 11Pro Max on latest iOS.

Have you manually setup BT between car and phone? After doing that, it should work, even if you connect to USB.

@Yerla, i did a full audio upgrade on my 2014LC. Added 3 amps, a dsp and replaced all the speakers. Also added a grom for android auto. For me, weak points were everywhere... felt underpowered and boths lows and highs were missing... after upgrading, i am very satisfied and I still stream Spotify via bluetooth. Make sure you sign up for Spotify premium and set the streaming quality to the highest level. From what ive read, spotify premium rivals tidal in terms of sound quality. Also, make sure you max out your phone volume all the way up so your source is strong. Try the spotify /phone settings first...

There is some sort of conflict so the phone switches back and forth constantly between wired and Bluetooth on a call. It’s unusable. Purchased a Naviplus unit with CarPlay so hoping that works as well as advertised.

I'm really interested in your setup. Can you post some pics. I have a 2019 lc200 with JBL, it's just OK. My 09 gx470 I did a full gut and rebuild 3 pdx amps, audio controldsp and vocals, and hertz it took me a while but turned out excellent. Thanks in advance

Front Stage = CDT 6x9 midbass / JBL in dash / Focal Tweeters
Rear Door = 5.25 JBLs
Sub = CDT 8 in factory enclosure
Amps = 2 audiocontrol ACM4300 / 1 Alpine mono sub amp
DSP = Audiocontrol DM810 (fed speaker level signal POST factory amp via wire harness and stinger speedwire)
Android Auto / Carplay via Grom VL2
Factory steering wheel controls / phone all work
Applied sound deadener to doors / floor and sub area

sorry that the pics are all over the place - the alpine sub amp / DSP and a 4 channel ACM amp are under the passenger seat... not a ton of room there, so i had to squeeze the second 4 channel ACM beside the Factory JBL amp, closer to the center.

I used JBLs and CDT because of the low impedence options - honestly, with all the tuning allowed via the dsp, not sure if spending $$$$ more high-end (was eyeing morel and focal at the time) would make a difference... system plays very clean, crisp and loud with controlled tight bass - (surprising out of the factory enclosure). Obviously does not thump like a 10 or 12" sub would, but i rather be stealth than have a box in the trunk. Everything looks completely factory, but the moment you play some music, you know...

Hope this helps / inspires.... a ton of work, but def worth it.
