I have been looking at the TJM-17 bumper and have a few questions. I have only been able to find it in polished aluminum and "black" powdercoat finish. Has anyone ever heard of being able to get it without a finish? I ask because I would like to paint it the same grey as the factory bumper (my truck is black and I'm not sure I want the front bumper the same color). If only available as a powdercoated finish, would I be able to paint right on top of it, or would I need to remove it(the finish)? I know it would be costly to repowdercoat in a new color, thus I am asking about paint, plus paint allows you to easily touch-up.

Second part of the question. Are there other front bumpers I should consider in the TJM-17 price range/strength? I dont plan on doing any serious rock-crawling so the ARB or Slee seem like overkill for me. From what I have read, if I have the "wings" welded onto the sides the TJM would stand up to some fairly decent abuse, again nothing like the ARB etc., but good enough for expedition type wheeling. On sale the TJM is almost half the price of ARB or Slee.

Thanks in advance - Cheers

I'm looking at the TJM for exactly those reasons. I'm not a rock crawler and am preparing the LC as an expedition rig anyway. I think a decent size winch also fits the TJM, and for me, that's perfect for my future applications.

I also think the TJM looks real nice, real clean lines, and I've read in other posts (I believe there was a TJM thread about a month ago or so) that it handles it's own in most situations/applications.

Now only to come up with the $500 to send to Christo...
Best.

I think most people have had success just sanding the powdercoat then painting over the top. You don't need to sand the powdercoat off, you just need to scuff it up enough to create a good bonding surface for the paint.

You might want to ask someone like Shotts who have done this themselves.

I was thinking some light sanding would be fine, just not all that familiar with powdercoating. I found a dupli-color "gunmetal gray" that I used to debling my emblems I really like, that may be what the bumper gets eventually.

I agree and I was thinking about a winch down the road as well. I do remember reading on the TJM site that there is some steel mounting brackets needed to add a winch, but it was not clear if thats extra, or you get it WITH the bumper purchase. I have seen them cheaper then $500, BUT I also want to support those who support MUD.
