Hey guys I need some help. I purchased a decent M416 in MD for $225 so I couldn't pass it up even though there is no title. I am looking through the process of applying for a Home Made Trailer title in PA. Since there is not title or certificate of origin I plan on creating a Bill of Sale for the purchase.
My question: I know I need to submit receipts for all parts used to assemble the trailer as proof that the sales tax on those parts has been paid. But how do I do that with the trailer itself? Does it need to be notarized and who do I pay the tax too? PA or MD? How do I go about this?

Wow! That is a great find. I think I might just skip PA and go the Maine route now. If I purchase this trailer and the owner signs a bill of sale and there is no title, would the number on the data plate be the VIN or should I just go the Home Made route?

I just got my Maine 5-year tags and registration in the mail yesterday. Thanks for your help on this one, painless process.

.

This is great to know info for other States that may have strict registration laws as well.

Thanks for sharing!

Good to hear that it worked out well for you!

I have a car trailer I'm putting back together. After reading through the PA stuff and searching around online I decided I'd go the Maine route but haven't gotten to that point yet. So doubly good to hear that it worked out well for you!

Well...

You have about 18 days to make it an Expo trailer...

Better get crackin'...

Pat.

all I can say is that the Maine registration stuff should be in a FAQ. Absolute life-saver. Thanks

A lot of states will not authorize registration from an adjoining state unless you carry a valid drivers license from the state as well. just be cautious where you go with this. You used to be able to do this in Arizona and Oregon for California but the glorious liberals nixed it, i am only saying be careful. Trailers are probably the exception in a lot of cases.

Registering a vehicle out of state is an entirely different subject than trailers.
