Hi 70 Lovers,
i'm new here, but not new to ih8Mud. i have (till now) an 80 (1FZ-F) that will be replaced by an Troopy (1HZ). I just got brand new BFGs for my 80 that i wonder i they would fit on my-to-be 2005 troopy; they are 285/75 R16. any help?
What i know is that the normal tires for the troopy is the 235, am i right? so what the max you can put without Lift, without rubbing??

Thankssss

I've seen a handful without lifts running 235/85R16. That seems to be a good fit. I hope Charles doesn't mind me posting this (if so I'll remove the photo). He sent me some photos of his hj75 with 235/85R16.

I think they look pretty darn good and hope to put on the same if I can ever find a rig!

. I'm pretty sure 33x10.5 and bigger will rub. Don't quote me on this though!

No problems as long as your suspension hasnt sagged. I had that combo on my FJ73 and then I transferred them to my HZJ75.Never rubbed in the slightist under full articulation.

285x85x16 sounds big ,its around 35 inches if Im calculating it correctly.I think it will rub on the rear inside of the arch when you turn.
Some people butcher them by smashing it in with a hammer:hillbilly:

I also love the 235x85x16. All round perfect size once you have got those huge things out of your system

My rear canopy clears my garage opening by less than a 1/2" so taller tires were never an option for me.

285/75/16 is 33 inch. If ur r using steelies, it will rub inside at full turn.:bang: I think offset wheels will eradicate this issue.

These are on my 97 LX 450 ( LT285 / 75 R16 ) and in my opinion would not look good on my HJ75.

Does anyone make 285/85/16 anymore? I haven't seen this size in any tire shops. I think it would be a great size.

nice, thanks all.
then i better leave teh tires out of the 80 when selling, and give it a try on the 70 (to be). I had this BFG set (6 pcs) for less than 1K miles and its shame to let them go that easily. Buying a set of rims or sell the tires will be a better thing :)

Thanks again, and this won't be my last post in 70 section, i'm just warming up :)

I ran 235/85R16 Hankooks on my LJ71 for a while, will be fine on a troopy. Good size IMO

i am running 35s on my kzj with a little arch trimming and they just rub on full flex and also rub just on full lock.

There could be a difference between 79 and 75 series due to different suspension on the front

A little search shows Silverstone are making them.Im sure there are others. They look ok on the LR:smokin:

  • The tire height is determined by using this formula:
((Tread Width * (Aspect Ratio / 100) * 2) * 0.0393700787402) + Wheel Size
Or
Using the above tire size of 285/75/16:
((285 * (75 / 100) * 2) * 0.0393700787402) + 16
= 32.83 for the height

The troopie can be hzj75 or hzj78, if his is 78 it will rub with oem steelies. I have no idea about 75 troopie. :)

I'm using these on my 79 now! There are made in Malaysia ;)

ahhh just re-read the post. There 285/75R16, should still be fine. Thats about a 33" width may be your only problem but like others have said wheel offset will fix this.

Does anyone know if 235/85 for 15 inch rims are still made? I would love to run something about 31" on my BJ70 steelies.

Sent from my iPad using IH8MUD

I believe the above formula will also work for brewing homemade beer. :D
