I want bigger tires on the LC but don't want to lift it yet.

From prior threads, others have gone with tires sized 275/70/18 rather than the standard 285/60/18.

https://forum.ih8mud.com/200-series-cruisers/749341-got-some-new-tires.html

Looking at the tire conversion charts, the width is a little different, 10.8 inches for the 275 vs 11.2 inches for the 285s.

Can the larger, narrower tires still be mounted on the the OEM wheels and any safety concerns?

it's only 10mm different, less than a half inch, won't cause any safety concerns at all!!!

I'm running 285/70-17 with no problem, so you should be able to mount and use 285/65-18 with no problems at all. I have stock suspension - no lift.

This is the tire size Toyota recommend using on the TRD wheels with the LC200. The 285/65-18 tires are 0.1" smaller in diameter so should present no problems or concerns.

And the required gratuitous pic:

and the taller the tire gets on the LC 200 the more it runs the risk of hitting the UCA, so going a bit more narrow is the way to go if your not gonne lift, IMO...

do your 17 inch wheels have a different offset then the stock 18's? And one other thing to keep in mind is every tire brand, and for that matter type of tire is going to measure differently even if they say they are the same size, sometimes a test fit is the only way to know forsure!!!

if and when you test fit some new tires, make sure to check the space between, the front tire and the UCA, and the turn the tires all the way and check the clearance at the UCA, the gap will close at the wheels are turned, mine is about 2 or 3mm at full turn running the 275-70R18 Duratacs....

What good tyres AT option do we have for the stock 285/60/18 ....seems the BFG does not come in this size....what other good tyres tested on this forum ?

I have the Toyo Open Country AT II's and love them. I have them in 275/60/20 and they are great. They are P-Metric, not LT like the BFG AT's, so they ride much better and are much quieter. I have the BFG's on my 80-Series.

You tell me!

As written in my sig, offset is 50mm.

What, if any, are the negatives with running the larger 33 inch tires?

changes up your overall gear ratio and the rig will be a notch slower off the line... I bit more upsprung weight, but nothing the rig can't handle! overall gas mileage will drop a notch, nothing major...

hi, i'm in the process of changing my tires for the winter and noticed you also running 20" wheels, do your 33's rub at all? i currently have 305/50R20, which is basically a 32"x12"x20", 1.25" spidertrax spacers and a slight 3/4" lift in front; i really want to go with 305/55's and worried they will not fit. seems that 295/55R20 will fit though

thanks for any help!

I have no rubbing. I have the front lifted roughly 1" by adjusting the AHC. My car is an LX570.

I will say that I think this is the largest that I could have gone without a "real" lift. I am working on that now though

i guess that means the 295/55's will fit on mine, just the continued uncertainty of the 305/55's looms.:bang:

Another basic question:

If I go from 31 to 33 inch tires, will the LC only be raised 1 inch?

I have a lower clearance garage at work and want to make sure of clearances as may need to lift the suspension a little for a new heavier bumper.

yep, if you will only increase vehicle height by one inch, give or a take a couple millimeters depending on tire brand etc...
