My severe weather rated AT tires (general grabber at2) weren't bad in the snow. I got them studded and everything. I never got stuck. Never missed a stop sign line. They were great snow tires. That being said, my buddy runs a studded, dedicated snow tire in the winter months and they are hands down the way to go if you live up in the mountains. While my at's had no trouble getting me around, his snow tires turned his 4x4 into a sports car in a blizzard. Unreal traction. I don't doubt that the dura tracs do well in the snow, but if I move back up to the mountains, I'll be running dedicated snow tires in the winter months.

Well, since it's alive I'll say that I think I'm leaning toward Treadwrights now, in the 285/75/16 flavor... this is mostly due to cost, but I've shy'd away from the 255/85 idea due to potential lowered on-road handling.

Well to follow up with this: LOVING THEM, LOUD AS HELL. As a bonus, the tire guy couldn't even tell they were retreads. I'm glad I went for the wider tires, they look great too.
