The maximum pressure will be molded into the sidewall. I suspect you want optimum pressure - that being the pressure which will result in full contact of the tread against the pavement with that specific tire and vehicle weight.
One way to do this is to chalk the tread. Hardware stores sell contractor chalk that is about 1" diameter by 4" long - works well.
This works best on smooth asphalt or concrete pavement. Pump the tires up enough to get rid of most of the sidewall bulge (do not exceed max inflation pressure). Chalk a band all the way across the treads and drive a few feet straight ahead.
Eyeball the wear pattern in the chalk.
--If overinflated the chalk will wear away in the center but not the edges.
--If underinflated the chalk will wear more on the edges than in the middle.
--If properly inflated the chalk will wear evenly across the tread.
Change the pressure and repeat until the wear pattern shows full contact.
This is not an exact science.
