I knew when I put my plow on that the 315 Buckshots would be less then ideal for the intended use but I had to try them. That being said I was right thay are about 50% and suck for plowing so being cheap and not wanting to spend the $ for new tires until next season I bought a tire groover off Ebay for $60. I have a set of 315 Mickey MTZ that are from 30-50% worn to practice on. Here are some pics. The cutter works effortlessly and gives new life to an otherwise fairly useless tread. I will be cutting the Buckshots this week and cant wait to see how there are in the snow etc. If you mount the blade upside down in the cutter head you can also sipe. Ideally a smaller aggressive tire would work the best but I want to stay in the 33-35 inch range.

Wow, that is quite the undertaking, but it looks like it may pay off.

How long per tire once you got used to the swing of things?

About 45 min to an hour. Your hand gets tired at first. Well worth the effort I think.

looks very clean, it takes alot of patience to do that!

i'm impressed
curious to hear about how much better they work, certainly have more tread now

certainly have more tread now

Actually they have less tread now....

Very clean! I kept scrolling down to look for the "after" pictures!

x2!! I thought it was a tire comparison until I looked closer. How did you get such straight lines?

I'm not worthy! I'm not worthy!

great job, you doubled the traction. if you sipe them, you prob quadruple the traction and reduce noise
good idea to get more life out of soft, offroad tires

So the knife works great I cut another tonight. It is very smooth once you get a feel for the tires compound resistance(I'm sure all are allitle different)and easy to keep what line you want. Easy cornering and everything. This thing would be a great addition to any tool box. Siping with the same knife on any tire will pay for itself the first set you do. I will be doing my Buckshot's this weekend and will post pics and drivability comments.

I've been looking at these for a couple of months. Was that the standard #4 blade you used?

You did an awesome job.. Im very impressed!

Looks good! Was there a noise differance? I may have to look into that... Nice work!

I'm sure the noise will change some. It will be hard to tell with winter conditions(hard pack, sand etc.) I cant express enough how east this really is once you get past the first few passes. In the past year I sold a set of 5 BFG AT's I had for $450, bought 2 sets of used muds for $400 total, $60 for the knife and I'm set for atleast 2 years. My truck is my only vehicle, towing mowers and landscaping in the summer plowing in the winter. I collect all my firewood with it, 5-6 cord a year and everything else. I go through tires! Its nice to know I can get full life and then some out of my tires from now on. Not to mention siping the wife's tires on the Tundra, equipment tires. It all adds up real fast once you look at it. Savin' $$$$$$$$$$....
