Hi all,

At some point in the future, I will be searching for 5 tires. I have 235 75R15 All Season Tires, more suited for highway use. My spare is the 225 75 R 15 Dunlop. I was looking at an All Terrain Tire in either 235 75r 15 or 31 inch tires.

I saw Yokohama Geolander for 95.00 or so for 235 75 r15.

Your rig will perform a lot better on the highway with the 235s, but if you are wanting to take it offroad, go with the 31s. It will still be just fine on the highway, but there is a noticeable difference.

I've never run the Geolanders, but I've heard good things.

FWIW

Dan,

Which 31's are good, and which ones are bad?

It really depends on what you want to use it for.

I really like the toyo open country ATs for combo use as well as the Les shwab wildcat ATs.

For strictly on road use, walmart sells a Uniroyal liberator AT that handles and wears really well, but isn't that great off road. Not bad, but not great.

For off road use, there are many many good choices, but again, it depends on application--rock crawling, mud, etc..

Hi,

Im looking for off-road mud tire that does not require me to use ear plugs when I drive on the highway.

I am a competitive shooter that drives on a dirt road that can get nasty when it rains.

No rock crawling in Florida, but if we get whacked by hurricanes I would like something that can shed water fast so I do not lose traction.

you might look at the 80 series tire Faq, I don't do mud tires that much as I have a dedicated set of swampers for trail use. But the faq has a good deal of info about quiet mud tires.

i run a set of 35" geolanders on my 3/4 ford diesel 4x4 and the mtr's on the cruiser. i gotta say i really like the geolander mt's on the truck, even winter driving on the yokohamas is better than my work truck on michelins atx's. however the front end in the ford is pretty heavy in comparison to the rear (old 6.9 v8 is plenty heavy) and it has a tendency to be an anchor in the mud. also i dont do many km's on the truck so they dont wear much. i would recomend the geolander mt's for someone looking for good all round+mud tires, and even for winter as long as they are an experienced winter driver, studs are the best for that. basically i think the geolander mt's are good competition to the mtrs and maybe better in some areas.

Any mud terrain will do you fine as long as its not a radial tire, Go for a bias ply tire like the Pro Comp or the BF goodies, swampers, ext ext. just make sure its not a radial tire or off road proformance is going to suck suck. Bias belted tires are so so but for off road use definatly go with a Bias ply tire.
P.S. I have the Pro Comp mud terrains, and I love em, they are quiet on the highway, and chuck the goopy stuff like a snow blower keeping the treads clean to eat. My pal has had them for the past year and a half and drives his runner every day and they havent worn down much at all. (plus right now its buy 3 get 1 free) so they are not a bad deal.
Good luck :)

That may not be a great idea for a DD. Bias ply tires will follow grooves in the road and make any commute a chore. Radial mud tires will do you just fine.
