Getting ready to do the T-belt on our 2008 GX and was curious if there were any good links, videos or other info either here or elsewhere on the web that I could use for study material. I looked around a bit, but didn't see anything.

Thanks in advance.

So has anyone done their own Timing belt?

Thank you @Elixir that's exactly the kind of info I was looking for. Didn't think about checking t4r.

You got it. I had mine done by my local Toyota dealer for ~$900 including tax a couple months ago, which I thought was reasonable. That included the timing belt, water pump, serpentine belt, radiator hoses, thermostat and idler pulleys just in case you wanted a pricing reference. I posted that over on T4R and people seemed to think I got a really good deal. Good luck!

So this is only the second forum I have ever been on so I apologize if my forum etiquette is off. It seems perhaps I should have done some sort of an introduction before just jumping in and acting like one of the gang. Just wanted to say that everyone here seems to be of very high caliber character and there is tons of great helpful info. Super glad to be a part of this community. Thanks for the site as a whole.
I bought a 2004 GX to be my business vehicle for my detailing company. I knew what I was buying and had thoughts of building it into an overland rig. Totally fell in love with it and have now also bought an’07.
Before I drove the ‘04 home, I left it at Lexus to change the timing belt. The thing had 164k miles and no record of change!
Now I just got the ‘07 and it only has 77k miles so it is under the recommended 90k for timing belt and WAY under 164k. However apparently age is a factor to Toyota/Lexus as well as mileag since they say 90k OR 108 (I think) months.
I’ve read here and elsewhere that no one has seen a belt fail, just wondering if the consensus here is that I should go ahead and change the belt or wait the ~13k miles till it hits 90k?

03-04 are actually more resilient if a belt breaks. 05+ with vvti are much less happy when it happens and are prone to doing a lot of damage. If you can afford it, I would do it proactively. I love PM vs. required maintenance (and even worse, fixes).

I'd wait.Your old belt will look great when you take it off, and you'll be kicking yourself for jumping the gun.

I'm all for preventative maintenance, but at some point it can border on wasting money. Lexus suggests 90k - that would make me start getting ready change it around 85k.
You could always use the extra time you have to source parts and tools and do research.

Age is a factor but not for a babied Beverly Hills GX470! I’d wait until 90k.

Oops wrong thread. This isn’t the Beverly Hills recent purchase one. Sorry

it’s funny though at the dealership I was at they had 4 and one was an ‘08 from Beverly Hills. This one I had asked you guys about in a different thread is from Jersey and had the “minor rust concerns” per my Lexus dealership pre purchase inspection. It was taken good care of in jersey though with records. And also it popped in my head that the dealerships may have their flaws but the one i went to in Denver was seriously posh. Full barista manned coffee bar, movie theater, pool table, massive indoor and outdoor lounges (I fell asleep outside), even a massage chair that I had to sit it. Lol. It’s nice having a Lexus
Thanks for the feedback too. I love it. I tend to think like Dan and feel like even if I can’t afford it what I can’t afford is for it to break. Then everyone else says wait. And the debate in my own head goes on....

My Lexus dealer claims timing belt intervals are 90k or 10 years. I think someone else confirmed that on another thread. I'm at 65k on my '08 and I'll be changing the TB, water pump, drive belt, and tensioner pulleys this summer. There's a "genuine Lexus" kit that includes all of those parts from a dealership in Arizona for $400 shipped on eBay. My dealer quoted me at $550 to install everything.

My 2003 GX470 Owners Manual says 90k miles or 72 months to replace timing belt.

The 2008 GX470 says 90k or 108 months. So, the timing belts age better with the newer GX470s.
