Got a new to me 2008 GX with 227,000 mi. No serivce history from the private dealer, one owner, looks like he took good care of it. Fluids all look ready to replace but coolant is real toyota stuff and none of the fluids look neglected.

I will only do 4,000 mi a year on the car tops, but need it to be reliable and eat snow for breakfast over the winter. I want to do all preventative maintainence on or ahead of schedule and put in the work to make the car drive like new. I have done the brakes and fluids but am not confident enough to do the bigger jobs. Since there is no history, the plan is to do the timing belt, water pump, shocks, control arms & tie rod ends. I also have a crack in my exhaust manifold and am planning on replacing it with OEM lexus parts.

I am taking the car to an exhaust shop to do the manifold replacement. I am getting the L and R manifolds and the L and R manifold gaskets. I want to get the exhaust studs pre emptively in case any break, and if im buying them all im inclined to just replace all studs. I have a couple questions:

1.Will it save any time to do timing belt/water pump at the same time as the exhaust or should i treat that as 2 jobs?

2.is there an exhaust stud kit or part # list somewhere? Is there a way to upgrade to a brand like ARP?

3.I hear the used catalytic converters are worth some $$. Should I use them as a negotiating chip with the exhaust shop, and if so what would they be worth to him?

Thanks all!

I have never done exhaust manifold job, the o2 spacers have saved me so far. Here is a list with part numbers that I compiled a few years ago when I thought I had to do this. Hope it helps.

Usually lexus and/or toyota will do 20% off parts around the holidays. good way to save some cash on $1200 exhaust manifolds

Hit the jackpot somehow and the exhaust leaks were on the jpipe and muffler. Only cost $250 to get it repaired! Dash lights gone!

I would take a good look at the back side of the radiator.. like unbolt the shroud and peek down there, look for pink icicles... if the radiator needs to be replaced, that would be one to do at the same time as the water pump, as both require new juice and it's easier to mess with the front of the engine with the radiator out of the way.

Un-hit the jackpot all the vsc lights are back. Gonna take it back and have them check for leaks again, still sounds much quieter at least.

Did you try o2 spacers? Not sure what code you are getting but I had the p0420 and spacers got rid of it for a few years now.

It’s not a nightmare if you are paying someone to replace. Just big $.
Plenty of us use the spacers and they’re like $20.
