I have never used Heli-coils -- sounds like not the best repair for this use. I think there still is a tool to buy and then it is known to back out when you pull the plug out.

Gotcha. Okay...I was starting to nerd out big time too! Was thinking it was for the drain oil drain plug on our cruisers...makes sense now.

Should be the same size on our transfer case.

Not sure it's worth the work, but you could plasma it out and weld in a steel o2 bung...

2 (Two) O2 Sensor Bungs (Steel), M18 x 1.5 Thread, Weld On, Oxygen Sensor Bung

I am not that good at welding steel to aluminum (that is covered in oil).

Funny aside, I thought about welding a new bung on, mainly because I like saying "bung". Kind of like going to the Westlake Hardware store and asking the women working there where the brass nipples are. Just plain fun.

Anyway..... where was I..... distractions...... oh something shiny....

I ordered that set I posted above. I just needed a direction so I can get this on the road.

is that the NPT plug that sticks out with the square end? If so, I know a real nice guy that is getting a 20mm tap and flush plug set.....
