Great question. Does yours specify made in japan or just japan anywhere? It seems there was a bit of speculation regarding the 'real' 555 kits, denoting there was in fact a difference, I have no personal knowledge either way.

CMD82, as far as painting them, I'd for sure paint that raw metal. I know i did. Good ole Rusto to the rescue, nothing fancy.

Hmm, then perhaps that's the difference folks were posting up about.
I'm voting that more has been has been made of the differences than what really is.
