Hi Mud!

My new-to-me 2011 LX is missing the U-shaped piece on the driver side.

Am I missing the tow hook (if so, I'll order and install)?

Or am I missing the tie-down point (don't care and will leave as-is).

I THINK I have the tow hook (p/n 51963-60060, $25) and I'm just missing the tie-down (p/n 51960-60020, $46)... in which case I'll leave as-is.

Pictures attached.

Thx!

I believe you are missing the tow point (the loop thing). But the part drawings say the opposites so I’m as confused as you are.

Looks like you you need these ;)

Here is a link to a thread that discusses this topic.

After rereading that thread, I'm not 100% sure the "loop" (we are talking the front recovery points not rear here) is the tow point or the tie down. I still think the "loop" is the recovery/tow point but the posts in the thread seem to say both. The rear loops, IMO, must be intended to be tie downs as that are angled down. Pulling horizontally on them will/might bend them. The front are horizontal and seem to be intended to be used for recovery. I am pretty sure more than one 200 has been pull out of or over something with straps attached to those "loops".

This is the part you need to replace:

How does one lose the loop? Damn, did previous owner slam down the truck on a rock?

Are we sure the LX came with two up front. Mine only has one on the passenger side.

@txtortoise Interesting! It certainly looks like it was never installed to begin with.

Also, the prior owner (who had it since new) was a real estate agent who never left the pavement. She definitely didn't "break" it off :). No evidence of weld marks either.

So.... what do LX folks do? My sense is that what is there *is* the actual tow hook (and the missing bit is the tie-down hook). I guess I'll test to see if a shackle fits through it...

You're missing one of the "recovery" loops. I belive that piece that you have installed is supposed to go in the back.

My 2011 LX only came with one loop. You are not missing anything.
Here are pictures of the pieces removed.

My LX came with two loops so perhaps there was a change during some MYs. The parts diagram shows either a loop or the retainer on the driver's side.

Well, clearly, to pay for the fancy leather and extra insulation, Lexus cut corners on the tow loop. :D
probably explains the suspension lean too...

In case it’s useful, my 2017 LX only came with one loop as well.

So, it seems to be something that changed at some point and is different than on the LCs I’ve seen.
