Fun Factor sliding scale (1-100)

Stock tune with your upgrades = 60
YW 87 Octane Active Duty = 90
YW 91 Octane Active Duty = 100
I'm only dropping the 87 AD tune down to 90 so there is room to improve performance on the 91 AD tune. She's an absolute blast to drive on the 87 AD tune.
Why is it a blast to drive? I'm looking at these specific tunes.

Sorry.. you are correct. My bad for asking a stupid question.

Personal experience along with official correspondence with YotaWerx was shared prior to your initial post. That's why I was confused and thought you were possibly trolling.

What additional information would you like to know that wasn't previously stated in this thread?

No need for further.. I read all your post while in the right frame of mind and you spell it out clearly..

No.. no flex... just me taking a selfy after stepping out from under the bridge..

It's a nice cardboard box you have under the bridge

Thanks I've had the thing bone stock for 10 years , got from the original owner with 25k on it, now its got 60. So I never did anything to it kept it stock in the garage mostly ran it on date nights or as a back up. But with all the aftermarket out now, I'm like .. f it, I'll rig the thing. So I was thinking about Nomad valve body to improve shift points, but it sounds like this tune does everything the valve body does for a quarter of the price.

That's crazy low miles - will last you another 20 years, easy!
I wish I had done mine earlier - I've owned her for 5 years, but just recently took the plunge on headers, Y-pipe and tune. It drives like a totally different truck for all the right reasons.

Well, I think the truck will still be goin after I'm gone. I'll put it in my will.. I bet yours does drive different. Nice mods all related to performance..Interestingly, I've been talking to the YW guy here in dfw, (JOEY) he basically echoes what you say, no hp or torque gains but "drivability" improves.

I've always liked headers but I'll hold the line on those until l have a problem with exhaust manifolds.

I don't blame you on waiting - the header job is a rather big one. I listened to the tick for years and then one day I felt heat under my feet and knew a cat was plugged and it was time. The main reason I got the tune was not for improved drivability, primarily, but to address the CEL issue I created when I removed 4 cats out of the stream and the 4 O2 sensors starting put codes out like ***ushima emitted radiation after the tsunami.

EPA crackdowns led to the discontinuation of O2 simulators - and for some reason Jason Burtman from Burtman Industries thought some non-90 degree O2 spacers would work with the 4.7 VVT-i and then ghosted me when the 2 inch long extenders didn't come close to fitting when I sent photos and asked if "his guy" wanted to try and get them to work.

Did some research on the tunes and found out you could do it in your own driveway - plus switch back and forth between tunes depending on usage. Figured since I spent all the money to open the 4.7 up - why not go the rest of the way and bring it all together by eliminating all the dumbed down programming for mass consumption they came with stock instead of just fooling the O2 sensor readouts.

The guys at YW are really professional and you can't go wrong, IMO. Def lmk what you think if you decide to take the plunge!

This part I didn't understand. I assumed the YW guys have to install the tune. I'm not sure how to do it myself, I'm fairly mechanically minded as an aircraft mechanic for the last 40 years so doable with instructions. Then my guess would be , buy the program online and the tool to install it? And, it sounds like both tunes could be installed and the switch between them?

Edit: Just read this on their website: Up to 20 Horsepower and 25+ Ft lbs gain over stock with premium fuel, noticeable mid-range performance increase. (See Dyno Pic)

My best friend was a Blackhawk mechanic in the Army National Guard - also crew chief of his medevac unit - nothing but respect for what you guys do!! He taught me the trick of starting all bolts backwards to avoid any crossthreading.

I was rowing the same boat you are with regards to heading in to uncharted waters with vehicle programming. I ordered everything with a reluctant hesitancy of a bricked ECU in the back of my mind and waited for it to arrive. It shows up and I'm like a kid at Christmas - I'm about to go all Fast and Furious on my V8, you know?!

I am a cloud consultant, so also pretty savvy around tech. Sat down and read through the instructions - and that feeling came from the back of my head to the front, haha.

I emailed Erik whom I had spoken with from Day 1 - expressed my uncertainty with the process and concerns with bricking the ECU and asked if he would mind getting on the phone and walking me through the process.

He agreed to a time that same afternoon and I hooked everything up to be ready for when he called. Erik then called and stayed on the phone with me from start to finish - maybe took 30-45 minutes and that's only because I was super slow going through the process and trying to commit to memory for future flashes and also downloaded the VF Tuner app on the laptop which I probably should have done prior to the call.

I'd recommend a Norco battery tender or some other tender that will maintain 12v at least through the flash process. I have the Norco 10 and it had me at 12.9-13.5 through the process.

32 days ago, I didn't even know tuning was available for our engines (it's only been around for a couple years and there's only a handful of us out there, apparently).

I can absolutely say YW will make sure you are taken care of after the purchase.

VF OrangeVirus Tuning - https://vftuner.com/ selling the pack for 100 (not sure if its the yotawerks pack -Same chart) - Lexus GX470 Tune Pack - https://vftuner.com/collections/tune-packs/products/lexus-gx470-tune-pack
Then they're selling the tuning kit which allows access from your laptop to tweek the tune for 399- VF Tuner Tuning Kit - https://vftuner.com/collections/vf/products/vforest-tuner-software-flash-cable and it looks like it allows you to do future tunes no a one time gig. But, its mated to that computer.

Have I gone to the right place and chosen the right pieces?

Same equipment for sure - more than likely pretty similar tunes - just the VF Tuner variant.

I can't speak to the differences between the YotaWerx tune and VF Tune, but I cannot imagine their being much difference between the two. I know they both claim the same improvements for the most part.

I also spoke with Matt Wilson @ VF Tuner when mulling over which way to go like the scarecrow from Wizard of Oz.

Marc at YW just seemed more willing to talk about the tunes themselves without making it seem like we were conducting an operation during WW II and needed Navajo windtalkers. My CEL issue was my #1 issue and the straightforward feedback I got from YW in regards to permanently addressing it is why I decided to go with them.

I'm sure you'd be in good hands with either option.

Went back through my emails with YW and found this reply:

"Our tunes for the 4.7L when compared to VF include additional focus on throttle response, ignition and fueling, and transmission control adjustment."

yotawerxtuning@gmail.com is how I initiated contact

Yea, I was kind of reading around and I was thinking YW does a bit of tweeking on the tune to get more out of it. Joey the guy I was talking to said he had been to the Lexus factory in Japan several times. He had bought quite a few of the OEM pieces I took off the 470 for his. I will follow your email link see what I can noodle about there. The guys at Bomber do it for 500 , I got a question in if that's a one timer or come back for repeat performances

Btw.. thanks for taking the time to go back and look at old emails, it can be a job. And, thanks for your help on this.

Doing my DT LT's this weekend at a buddys shop. The LT's can be had pretty affordably through URD in my opinion when compared to OEM replacements. Even after adding the other necessary parts its still a great deal for more horsepower + a lasting design which won't crack. I'll be keeping my stock catted y pipe and catback since they are in good shape.

I ran that same setup for almost 2 years and was blown away earlier this year by the extra power after replacing the OEM catback with a Borla catback (for a 5th gen T4R). I was also blown away, back in 2021, with just the headers and keeping everything else OEM. I still have the OEM Y-pipe installed and have no plans to replace it as I like being at least half-catted. The headers really un-cork the motor, which results in the OEM catback being the new restriction robbing you of power.
