I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this. I have a '00 LX with the AHC and recently I can feel a sort of thump from the rear, almost like a sticking rear caliper but I cannot isolate the issue. I'm thinking it may be the rear suspension? Seems to happen when I slowly stop and then gently ease off the brakes and proceed forward.

Any ideas what to check first?

Thanks...

My guess is the famous landcruiser driveshaft clunk. Lube the slip yoke of your rear driveshaft. Also check the rear control arms & lateral rod for proper torque (they keep the rear axle located in the proper place) if you haven't recently or never have.

Wifey just recently complained about this too.

I hopped up and down on the tow hitch receiver and duplicated the noise.

It seems to be the rear bumper cover and mud flap rubbing on the left rear quarter panel when the car bounces. I figure somebody parked by their bumpers and reduced the clearance betwen the plastic pieces. Will take a better look in the daylight this weekend.

Have also heard in the past, when I take my foot off the brake and start to accelerate slowly, a slight clunk. It sounds a bit like the brake caliper shifting back into a neutral position. Or maybe a bit of drive-train slop. But it's been there through the life of the vehicle and hasn't gotten any worse.

This happened to my dads cruiser as well. It was something in the bumper. Strangely, it went away by itself after a few months.
