Hi Robbie!
It was good to see you and Robin at CM07!

I heard you had to assist one of our club members back into his own tent and sleeping bag after a few too many shots of tequila. I will pay handsomely for any pictures. If you don't have pictures then I will pay for gory first-hand details.

Connie, Ross, and I will be at this event. Several others have also registered or expressed an interest. It looks like we will have a good showing from the HDC group. Unfortunately, we don't have any experience with the trails down in Ruidoso. One of the major attractions of this event was the opportunity to see a new area with new-to-us trails.

It appears that your lack of ability to hold your liquor will now be legendary at future Cruise Moab events.

I still want pics. :flipoff2:

I just sent in our reservation.

Good to hear you're coming Steve. If you want to head down Friday morning, Rory, Mike B. and I are planning to leave from I-40 and Carlisle ~10. I was hoping to take a scenic (I hope) route I've never traveled before. South on 337 from Tijeras to Mountainair and then south on 55 to Carizozo. You mentioned there was some road construction in that area at the meeting so if you have a better suggestion, regardles of whether you want to caravan with us, let me know.

I'm not sure when we're leaving yet. I notice the trail team demonstration is at 5:00 Friday night, so will try to make that anyway. It also depends on the availability of an RV spot, and we haven't heard back from Brandon yet.

You will miss any road construction that I know about going the way you're going.

So what is the HDC head count for this event?

Did I forget anyone? Or add someone who isn't going?

We're in - should be fun. Not sure yet when we'll be going. We're going to tow our tent trailer with the 80. I was hoping to leave by noon on Friday, but that may not happen depending on work. I would also like to get there in time for the vehicle recovery session on Friday evening.

Marc's suggested route down 337 will be scenic, but just plan for some extra time. We were out there yesterday in Manzano for a Mom's Day picnic. Manzano is about 10 miles from Mountainair. Very pretty, but just don't expect to make time like you would on the Interstate. Speed limit is mostly 50 or 55 and it's all two lane obviously.

We've got quite a group from HDC - looking forward to it!

Evan

I don't go much over 65 on the Interstate so my 60 (and I'm sure Rory's 40) will be happy chugging along at 55. Hopefully Mike B. doesn't get too impatient riding with us slow-pokes.

The forty does well at sixty. I take I-40 in the morning and usually pass people doing 65. But I'm sure it be happier at 55.

How many of us are camping?

Actually, the faster I go in our 40 the smoother the ride. The problem is that the gas mileage really sucks going that fast (actually it really sucks going slow, it really really sucks going fast). I remember trying to catch up with somebody on the way to Gordy's Hill one time - I started on a downhill and noticed that it really smoothed out. I was going 85...

We're RVing it, but will probably take I-25 to 380 since the road is much better - plus it's no further from Albuquerque. We'll probably only go about 60 ourselves - I checked the gas mileage difference between 60 and 70, and we're making about a hundred dollars an hour now on the gas we save for the extra time it takes us...

I guess I'm really not opposed to to taking I-25. Rory, Mike, do you have an opinion? I may take 55 to come back home on Monday. I'd like to go see Gran Quivira with is between Mountainair and Carrizozo and Monday might be better for that since I won't be motivated to get a good campsite and be around for the Trail Team's instructional stuff.

Rory, I will be tent camping.

Marc

Doesn't matter which way we go... I just like caravanning. I will be tent camping... as soon as I buy a tent. Any suggestions on brands would be nice. I'd like to get something decent for family type camping... and not break the bank.

Any suggestions on brands would be nice. I

Don't buy at REI. Try Sportsman's Warehouse. They have several good brands. You might be able to borrow my Kelty from Beno. :D

-Mike-

I'll second that about REI. They donate to anti-offroading causes.

My reason for advising a newbie away from them is because they are expensive and carry the high-end brands at pretty much list price. Hard for a novice to know when they are getting a bargain from REI.

I really like REI, but I was trying to avoid spending $400+ on a tent. Thats too much money that would be taken out of my wheeling money!!! I don't mind spending a couple hundred though.

Thanks for the offer on borrowing your tent Mike. I think I would prefer to buy one though b/c I'm planning on bringing my copilot, assuming her legs are still doing alright.

Check out Walmart. The advantage is you can try it out that night without leaving the parking lot...

I am planning on tent camping also. I would like to join the caravan down if my schedule allows it.
