You’re giving my wall too much credit, but if I can make an analogy (since wct49 already took us there), the cameltoe of the Vegas talent wearing yoga pants and make-up is infinitely easier on the eyes than the gaping, infested, exposed crack of the... errrrrr... crack in my wall.

On a serious note, though, I did consider this, ran the calculations, and decided it was worth it in the grand scheme of things. There’s already a window and door in the back wall that were filled in at one point, and I’m framing in two giant windows and am only covering with plywood. The CF will be the nicest repair in the place.

I’ll blend the edges as best I can and peel out. You already have to know to look for it after a coat of primer. Once it’s painted and built out, it will really disappear.

VERY nice forklift! Momentum will cure that soft spot in the asphalt........for a while, anyway. Then you'll need a lift for more clearance.

Long, but productive day today. Dirty Rob met me at the shop and we ripped the west wall a new one. Two new ones, actually...

The goal for today was to get the windows cut out, closed in and then hopefully framed up for the AC and exhaust fans.

Things were going great at first. Then Rob caught a bad bite with the angle grinder, the blade exploded, bounced off the window and the grinder got tangled up in his shirt while still running. He Managed to unplug it and escaped alive, but with a few new battle scars.

He’s from the streets though, and we pressed on, demo’d the windows, and got the openings filled in:

We both had hall passes for the day, so we went and grabbed my big ass (28,000BTU) AC unit that has been taking up half of my living room for a month.

We grabbed some beers and smokes too, since it looked like we were on the downhill slope for the day.

We get back to the shop and immediately ETAF is in the the cooler...

A few tallboys in and he* commandeers the forklift, threatening to take it out and drive down Summer. Luckily he got stuck in the soft asphalt before he could escape.

With him* occupied, we tried to decipher the instructions on how to install this as a thru-wall unit instead of a window unit.

After a BUNCH of buzzed measuring and re-measuring, we had the opening framed & cut out, and the unit disassembled to bolt the housing into the wall. Notice the sister opening for a second unit if (when) this one isn’t enough.

We went to plug it in, and...

FAWK - the receptacle was too small for the plug. The electrician underestimated my love for AC.

No worries, Lowe’s was still open for another hour. I peeled out and ran to Lowe’s while Rob cleaned up.

Unfortunately, they were out of the plug we needed, and Home Depot was already closed.

We really wanted to see this mofo run, though, so I drilled holes in the spades and we wired it up Summer Ave style:

Rob & I have experienced this phenomenon a few times.

It’s hard to describe, and must be witnessed first hand to fully appreciate, but it’s the Summer Avenue magic hour.

Like clockwork, as sun gets low on the horizon, the traffic dies down, the area commotion mysteriously quiets, and it just becomes a super tranquil spot. Total 180 from the middle of the day.

If you catch it during nice weather, it is on par with a full double rainbow. If you have a beer & a cigar in hand, it is literal nirvana.
