Hey guys,
i'e got a quick question regarding installing an aftermarket oil pressure gauge on my rig. I need to find the thread size for the oil pressure sender at the bottom of the engine, on th 1HDT.
Any info would help, as i don't want to be scrambling after i remove the old sender. Want to make it quick and not lose to much oil.
Cheers in advance.

You dont lose hardly any oil and you can minimise it further by elevating the left side. I do this regularly to check the oil pressure with a mechanical gauge.
I dont know what thread it is ,but it is somewhat tapered from memory and hard to find exactly the same size.
Its the same thread on about 30 Toyota engines and many more non toyota.

1/8" NPT can be made to fit as well.... the thread pitch/size isn't that different and since they are both tapered threads.... it'll fit.

But Autometer sells an adapter: product 2269 that is male 1/8 bsp, female 1/8" NPT.
Allows you to plug 1/8" npt guage into the hole on the motor.

As sandcruiser said, 1/8"NPT works perfectly and is readily available in North America. Don't waste your time and money on an adapter.

Sometimes those Autometer senders don't go quite small enough at the small end of the taper, although it's very close and feels like it's just about to start engaging. If you have this problem, get a 1/8NPT die nut and run it up the threads on the sender if it doesn't just thread right in by hand. Do this in baby steps. You really only need about 1/2 of the threads to engage.

Im getting ready to install some gauges into my HZ. Oil pressure, oil temp and water temp. Will I be dealing with the same thread size as those with the HDT?

Thanks

PS, I found some VDO 24V gauges too!

I want to install a VDO oil pressure sender guage on my 1HDT, when I removed the OEM one and tried to install the new one it felt as if the threads were different (felt like I would strip the thread if I kept turning..) so I stopped straight away and refit the oem one for now.. this was a couple months back. I went onto the VDO catalog and it seems the thread for this sender is 1/8-27 NPT (dunno what the 27 is for?) should I get an adaper of sorts made up in a machine shop so I can get the new sender to fit or should I just get a 1/8"NPT die and rethread the female thread on the block? Pretty anxious to mess with the thread on the block but if it's the right move I'll bite the bullet and do it..

Found this on the net http://pipeandhose.com/node/2 and figured out that the 27 is the number of threads per inch.. BSP has 28.

I have tried to put numerous 1/8" NPT fittings in those BSPT ports and never had any luck getting them to seal properly. I just buy the correct adapter. Mcmaster Carr sells them. :)

us a 1/8 npt tap and re-thread the block. you'll have to atleast 2/3rds of the way in with the tap. i've done this 4 times now. try to adapt the tap to a 1/4" rachet w/extension works best. the bsp threads are 26 threads per inch and the npt are 27 p/". so close but no cigar. put grease on the tap to prevent metal fillings into your oil system. cheers and good luck!

ps i just did this on a rhd import 6 cylinder turbo diesel and had to remove the starter to get at it. the 3b port is real easy
