I'm looking at this cruiser. The price seems really good and he sent me pictures and it looks like its in good shape. Is there anything i should look out for when i see it tomorrow? It doesnt sound like he has much service history. His dad owned it for the last 16000 miles. He doesnt know when the timing belt and water pump were changed. Im new to 100s but owned an 80 previously. Any advice would be welcomed. Thanks

Mileage is low for a '99, but a limited service history is somewhat of a concern. However, take a good look over the vehicle and undercarriage. For that price, and I assume it's negotiable, I would not hesitate if it drives good. These things are bulletproof and 159k miles is just breaking in. Baseline the fluids, change the TB/WP if he didn't do it, and drive it for many more years. Good luck.

Get the VIN, check its Carfax, and plug it in on the Toyota owner's site. Then have a dealer look it over. There have been a couple threads lately where folks found out their truck had a rolled back odometer. That's a great price, if it checks out.

Posted 8 days ago. I am surprised it has not sold. Not saying anything is wrong with that car, but in my area, anything like this do not last 1 day. Make sure you do a complete check.

Yeah I kinda thought the same thing. Hopefully if there is something wrong its fairly obvious. I live an hour away so it will be just me driving it probably, not taking it to a dealer or anything.

Yes, don't be stupid like me. Run a Carfax and put the VIN # in the Toyota Owner's website! Very unlikely this '99 only has 159K miles. Possible, but very unlikely.

I pulled the vin for it off of his website (it is his own small used car dealership). The vin was no good according to toyotas website. Hopefully just a typo. Ill check the vin tag when i get there today and run what it says

I'd imagine it is still for sale because a misspelled Craigslist post without pictures scares folks away. The ad is written similarly to the one I responded to which got me a cruiser.

I would certainly take a look. Please share what you find. I may need another 99 ;)

I wonder if that's my old 99 that I traded in Overland Park Ks. Back in 2008 with 60k miles on it. It spent it's life in AZ, SW UT. until I moved to KC from Utah.

Got the correct VIN. He took a pic of the title. Toyota only has 2 service records for it one in 06 for warranty electrical harness inspection it had 92000 miles then. Then another in 2013 with 143000 miles it said brake pedal went to the floor. Dealer recommended new pads rotors etc. They also noted no timing belt sticker and recommended tb and water pump. Owner declined both. Not sure about this one mileage could be right but sounds like maintenance may have not been a priority.

Interesting that it only has 2 service records. Usually there is always records when the car is under warranty because all the owner needs is to take it to the dealer and it will be fixed for free. Then maybe less Toyota records after the warranty ran out because the owner is taking it to independent mechanic.

You can always see if you can leverage the lack of service records into lower price :D It might be a great deal here assuming everything else looks decent.

Yeah maybe I am going to wait and drive it then run the car fax if everything seems ok agter the test drive. We will see.

Well, i went to the dealer and took it for a test drive. It was a hole in the wall shop that also sold cars. The guy in who i had been in contact with, Ali, turned out to have some sweet ankle jewelry. I didnt ask where he got it. The cruiser looked pretty decent. It drove fine. No real issues stuck out. The truck had definitely sat for a while and you could tell everything had dried out or corroded. The undercarriage was very rusty. The bottom of the top lift gate was rusty as was the top of the tailgate. The windshield leaked and the a pillar looked as if it had been repainted (the paint was rougher texture than the rest. Anyways I think im going to pass on this one. Thanks for all the input.
