So I quit that real job, thinking I'd have more time.. Then the huz quit his job and came to work with me, picking and going to auctions all over the east coast. Turns out, when you like what you do, you have even less spare time.:bang:

Then we found out that large lot between the highway and our house had been bought and was being rezoned for business. Turns out it was Walmart and they're planning on building right to the edge of our street.

We went to the rezoning meeting, and it turns out it had already been decided. I absolutely detest Walmart. As a family we do not shop in ANY of their stores. I haven't been in a Walmart in seven years. Now we are expected to stomach their construction traffic, and not to mention their storm runoff to an area already notorious for severe flooding.

So we decided, what the heck. We fell in love with New Orleans. We can be poor in NOLA just as easily as we can be poor with Walmart as a neighbor. Nothing holds us to Jacksonville..other than this house. I contacted some guys in the Louisiana club to get input on good school districts and we've laid a base plan out. We hope to be sold and packed out by the end of the school year..move down and find a place in Slidell/Covington/Mandeville area.

Until then, y'all are still stuck with us!:bounce:

You are concerned about flooding and runoff so you are moving to NOLA?

I lived in Abita Springs back in 82-83. That is next to Covington. I didn't have much $ but ate like a king. Like Stan said, you will get flooding during hurricanes and rainy season but a great place to live. We will definitely talk about it at Logan's Run. Good luck on your move.

Yeah, sounds crazy right? We were talking about moving down there in 4 years after the kid finished school...while we were there in February we talked to a few business owners and homeowners quite a bit about the challenges of living in such a place, and we still managed to love it.

Walmart just accelerates the plan..

Yes we will talk Kenny! The schools in St Tammany parish rate the best in the state and according to test scores, better than the school she goes to here.

So its a huge plus, and its on the " mainland" across Ponchartrain from NOLA.

I am with you on loving a place, I lived in the FL Keys for ten years. I've just always viewed NOLA as the splash block at the end of the down spout that is the Mississippi. I't position makes it a ticking bomb.

I do wish you all the luck in the world. Following your dreams is the best gift you can ever give yourself!!

be fore-warned! They are fighting an epic Walmart battle in Covington/Madisonville. Noone wants them there either, but they keep fighting to put one there. If i was there, instead of being here for work, i would be fighting them along with everyone else. They are trying to put it in a very quiet middle income residential area, when there is one about a mile and a half away. My house is there, my job is in PA., If i could, i would move back.

Greensboro has some rock'n nice neighborhoods that are blocks and blocks from the nearest Walmart. Add to that a kick A** high school with a second-to-none science department (bias leaking out) and it could be your new digs. Come on up!

NOLA is on the short list of places I want to moved to instead of a move based on need.

I know.if I told Andrea we are moving there the house would.be packed by tomorrow night

Like others have said, it's sad to see you moving so far away, but I'm glad you're going somewhere you really want to be :D

Johnny ???? Up before 9 ?? Or you still up from last night?

Best wishes on the move and keep us posted on how the ac install goes in mejane :D
